I have a Coon

Those aren't rare... they're a pest, and I shoot them with a BB gun if they happen upon my bird feeders. :p
-
Thats neat Forrest. Is he litter trained? Can they be litter trained?
I would be interested in owning one.
-
Coons are cute when young but they can become a handfull. They can be downright dangerous matured. Sharp teeth and claws.

My mom tryied to litter train him. He just makes a mess. She cleans out his cage every morning and every night.
There not a bad pet. But you have to constantly cleaning there cage and interacting with him. He's nice and gentle when he first wakes up in the morning. But once it gets around noon he's hyper as F**** :O
Ive heard that some people let there coons have there own seperate room. But they have to put ply wood up(So they dont chew through the wall)

Does anybody have any rare pets besides me?
here is a baby picture of him

Where can I get one? Do I have to capture it, or can I buy one somewhere?
-
By this time next year you will not have that coon. My brother had a couple in college. Mature coons are danger, take it from someone that has been bit.. Both of his coons took a ride across the lake to their new home "the woods"....
-
We have had him for a while now. He is fully grown. Those pics that are posted are baby pics.
Here is a fairly recent video.

Having a wild animal as a pet is a bad idea. If you want to have one just to have something unusual, collect antique cars or something.

I have a 8 inch black ghost knife fish in my fish tank in my barracks. Grows up to 20" in some cases. Not very rare, but hard enough to keep alive to be rare.
He looks like this.

I have a pure bred White German Shepherd. I'm too lazy to go take a picture so here is one I googled that is fairly similar to mine.

My wife's friend had two & one day when they were nearly adults something went wrong at feeding time & they mammed his face for life. Pretty nasty as adults.

Does her family own a liquor store? If so, you may have the perfect wife.

We did not raise him just to have something rare. We got him because he was very cute when he was little and dident look like he would hurt anything. Now that he is older hes a lil'meaner but hes still cute. We can't just realise him, he dosent know how to hunt his own food. Hes still worth having.
-
ForestS, I wasn't picking on you and was responding to ariansworld asking about getting one (that's why I quoted him).
Many people do not know how to properly care for such animals. Although they are often cute and friendly as babies, as adults they can be dangerous and unhappy in captivity. So many of these end up at shelters or dumped in the wild where they will usually die because they didn't learn how to survive in the wild as youngsters.
There's also the issue of infectious diseases (for example raccoon rabies is epidemic along the Atlantic coast) and in many states owning certain wild animals is illegal. Some of these animals end up as fad pets, which encourages commercial trafficking.

Oh, I'm sorry i just realized that. I was a little sleepy when i posted that.

Leopard Geckos. Beautiful, docile creatures. Mine were so tame and each had their own character, they used to climb up my arm and sit on the back of my neck for the warmth.
I also had one of these, a golden gecko, in the same tank. The suckers on its feet meant it could grip to the glass, which used to confuse the Leopard Geckos!

Unlike you apparently, most people have pets larger and smarter than microbes.

Black?
Ooooookaaaayy.

Raccons are far from "rare" ... owning one is ... and there is a reason for that as you are finding out and will find out as it gets older.
-
cockatoos aren't that rare, but neither are maltese and besides i like to flaunt her.

As a teenager I found a whitetail fawn right at our driveway that had lost it's mother due to being hit by a log truck. Living out in the country here in Alabama it happens all the time. My parents and I raised it past the nursing stage and then let it go. We had help from a friend of ours who worked for the state as a wildlife biologist. He tagged the doe with a radio collar and ear tag to track it as part of a study. About 3 years later I was hunting around the house and killed it and another deer that was with it when they were coming into an area near a food plot we had in the woods.
She was tasty!!!!!
