I know the process of making in seeing skins in game etc etc, I am proficient in CS3.. i just need some good references, as I understand it only historically accurate skins can be considered for adding to the game, correct? (as much as I would like to fly the Barbarossa in the MA  )
i don't have much in the way of resources for finding reference material, google isn't cutting it.
I would prefer to do one (if it historically existed) that is nothing like the current skins.. i.e. not the same lines and such..
thanks.

I'd try posting in the Custom Sounds and Skins section, where the skinner crowd tends to hang out...

Wingnut, i'm trying to do the same thing, I made a post in the skin forums. What Yak you gonna work on?

Gentlemen, I have photos of a replica yak that was painted with an authentic WWII scheme.
This would be a beautiful skin for the game. I can't provide an accurate actual reference but this seems to be a good start.

I can upload more images from different angles if anyone is interested.
Feel free to PM me if you lads are interested.
Regards,
Arch.

Well, skinning a Yak can be a chore, but they make for a nice coat...

Sure, I should have some from both sides. I'll look around and post them here when I can.

I have a profile, but its a Yak9T not a Yak9U. #29

Description:
Yak-9T of Maj. Ivan Nikiforovich Stepanenko, 4 IAP, 2 Baltic Front, December 1944.
Aside from featuring Stepanenko's considerable victory tally and his personal emblem, this aircraft also displays the crest of the Order of the Red Banner on the nose. Stepanenko received this award no fewer than four times.

Don't use replicas, even if they claim to be painted in historical colors. More times than not, they aren't. Find some other resources for a better idea of what it looked like. Don't discount the replica photos, just don't rely on them.

Well, that is interesting.
Good post, Motherland.
It would still be worth skinning, the 9T is still a formidable aircraft in the right hands

I was looking to to a 9T Motherland. If you got some photo's go ahead and send them my way bro! I am working on the panel lines and such now but am still looking for something to do. Might have found one, but am not sure if it is a 9T or not. LaGG-3-37 "Red 90" 42 IAP winter 1942-43. Here is a photo of it:

Problem is, I can't find anything for the top portion of the wings and such. Guess I will just keep looking.

A Lagg is not a Yak. Totally different plane.

I dont have any more pics of that Yak, I dont think. I just remembered that one because I too wanted to do it before I fell out of love with the Yak.
The aircraft you have pictured, like Krusty said, is not a Yakovlev at all. It's a LaGG-3, which is an inline-engined predecessor to the La-5. It has nothing in common with any Yakovlev beside that it was in service during Op:Barbarossa. Its got quite a cannon, hasnt it?

Thanks Krusty! I missed that when I was reading the article on it and it didn't even click.
