Title: SysTray and Start Up Sanitizing
Post by: StrayDog on January 01, 2008, 08:02:24 PM
Hi,

Is anyone using programs to stop unnecessary programs from booting at startup like "Startup Cop Pro3"

Or "EnditAll" to clean all the stuff out of the systray.

I running a 4 year old XP system and dear ol' windows just wants to boot everything but the kitchen sink at  startup and slow things down.

Thanks

SD

Google: FSAutostart

It lists all running services and programs, and gives you recommendations of what can be stopped and restarted. Then you select AH as the application to run. It will stop all the things you tell it to stop, then launch AH, restarting everything after you close AH.

alot of those things in the tray can be disabled in the program it self. Right click sometime shows an option "don't load with windows" or don't start on windows boot" Go through all of them and shut down the "auto loads" first. Then use FSautostart to get your system laen for game play.

EasyCleaner doubles as a registry cleaner and a "startup modifier." It'll stop them from loading in the first place whereas you have to run FSAutoStart to end them on each new boot.

How long ago? You know about the airflow recoding, right? Most planes fly differently than they used to. If it was REALLY long ago (AH1) you're in for a shock.

Oh wow, I didn't even read who the original poster was. I've been doing fine other than all the relationship crap us teens get into. :D

Actually, with some of the changes made, you might not be able to get AHII running. Good luck and feel free to PM or email me if you need help.

Nope, I use this thing the computer comes with...

Start->Run->MSCONFIG->Startup->Un-check any programs I don't want.

I had to boot back to reallity about two years ago.  the current AH runs offline, however I get a bit of the "white blob" lag if I run anything prior to opening AH (email, etc).   Thus I figure I best spruce up the ol' puter before lauching online.

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation
System Model: DIM4500
BIOS: BIOS Date: 07/18/02 13:31:28  Ver: 08.00.00
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz

Page File: 239MB used, 1010MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

ATI Radeon 9800 Vid card

I will probably throw another mem stick in.

REF:   AH I,   Oh, yeah, howbout AW???    May explain some of my MK I eyeball deficiencies.    And what was the name of that 2D console fightergame  Bell and Howell sold in the mid 70S?

Thanks for all good advice

I have no clue about ATI cards, but you do need much more RAM. How you lost 2MB of it is a good question as that must be a 512 (or 2x256) stick. I use 2GB of RAM in my machine, though my CPU is .66 GHz faster.

OZZ,

I bought this box on 02' so it can stand a bit upgrading.  Running msconfig cleaned up the tray.    Can't believe I forgot about that.

Thanks
