WOW!
-
That's a month old or something, figured someone already had it covered. Still surprising though, even more surprising is that their price cuts of 20% are still higher than other local computer stores.
-
Yeah, that was on the news in early December here.
-
I hope no one is counting on an extended warranty from them. :huh
-
saw it comming over a year ago when all the stores around here went out of business.
Beware of any "going out of business" sales
When they had them here there really wasnt much in the way of savings
-
Was one near me. Convenient at times but with Fry's Electronics a few hundred yards away it won't be missed.

I closed them down personally after they ripped me off to the tune of about $80 dollars on a return in the Mid 1990s.

I was in a CompUSA once. That was enough.
-
My pet peeve with them was that when they had a sale advertised in the sunday paper they NEVER had the stock to back it up.
Ive had good luck lately with Micro Center and Tiger Direct.
-
Dittos on Tiger Direct. They are good to price compare against NewEgg

Really? CompUSA has been in serious financial shape for many years now.
There are so few stores at this point, that this really will have no market impact.
The company was sold off to a Mexican Billionaire by the name of Carlos Slim many years ago. So it has not been an American owned company for a long time now.

I bought 2 pc's from those salamanders back in the 80's and 90's, and they are on my watermelon list along with Advance Auto.....good riddance. They remind me of MY company, and I tell all my friends to NEVER do business with them:furious
-
I use to work for them back in late 90s in Tampa, Florida off Dal Mabry - was nice the discounts I got from there, but jeez they never sold anything honesty, remember a few radio stations coming out to do shows there for free computers just trying to get sales and it generated nothing but headbangers outside lol
Anyone rember when Babbage's was a computer store which changed name to Gamespot and sold only video games? They had a store in local mall for long time, remember when games back then new were over 70 dollars :cry

THATS THE STORE WHERE I BOUGHT THE #@$@#@#$ COMPUTERS! Right off Himes:rofl

Yep went into the one here before Christmas and it was a joke. They were only doing 10% off computer hardware and most of it was stuff from early 2006...which works out great but they still had it priced at 2006 prices.
-
Never bought anything from them. As with SOB, I went in there once...
-
I liked their return policy. You could order anything, say, a cougar hotas, and then when you found out that it sucked (the next day) you could return it for a full refund just because you didn't like it.

Only thing I hate about Tiger Direct, is they are in Florida so I have to pay sales tax. That causes me to order mostly from NewEgg.
On the CompUSA, they used to have one when I used to live in Melbourne, FL.. but it was closed almost a year ago if not longer. They had some tough competition though, there was a Best Buy just up the street and there were two wholesale computer stores within 2 miles of their store. (one was right next door).
Then to make it worse they had a Circut City on the other side in a shopping center with a Target. They were still a pretty busy store so I was amazed they closed.

I wish they'd open one in Boise, where I'm moving to.
-
been closed in Mass, for 6 or more months.
-
I used to buy from Babbages. I think the last new game I got from them was about $32.00, I was complaining about the high cost of PC games then too!

Was it a Packard Bell computer or a 3DFX Banshee video card?
-
Sad. For awhile CompUSA was a desired destination. Then seemed to go through various identity shifts, e.g., briefly even trying to market their own brand computers.
Competition is fierce. Nearby are Best Buy, Circuit City, a local computer store, Staples, and Office Depot. I've had better luck with Best Buy for computers (mostly HP) than any of the survivors, but apparently that just shows what I (don't) know.

It was actually a defective Zip drive. I've only bought one pre assembled PC and that was a 286 in about 1988 :)
