The high temp for the better part of two days was 30 degrees. Until today when it went up to 45 but the humidity started coming back and it felt colder than the other day.
-
Yikes, that chilly! Did you buy your first sweater yet? ;)
A balmy 53 degrees here today. 18 more inches of snow in the mountains predicted for this week-end (it warms up down here at the 1000 ft. level right before another big storm blows in...
-
24/7 Global Warming coverage 2 months ago.
Not a peep in the past couple of weeks.
Odd.
Hard to sell ice cream in winter?
Not directed to the posters in here, simply an observation. Cold here today in Cali also :)
-
55 today in Colo Spgs
-
Just finished roughing a house today.
Last two days were just below and just above zero.
-
I haven't seen above 32F in close to two months. However, this weekend supposedly going to be 40F. I can recall back in 2002, all the snow was melted at the beginning of February. That was the same year as 85F on April 14 and 15th and 2-3 days later we had sleet at 32-35F.
I hate Wisconsin some days (or months) :lol

Been doing that all of December. Fun aint it?

The crazy thing here is there was almost no humidity which is weird for us. In the past if it was near freezing we were in the high humidity percentages and such. This weekend we are supposed to be in the 50's with rain and lows at night sub freezing so it will begin to feel like winter down here. The other morning it was 9° on my carport with the sun shining on the thermometer and the high was 29 with a 15mph northwest wind all day gusting to 35mph+. Funny thing though is it did not feel that bad...I have been to MN and WI when it was a high of 8° for the day and it wasn't bad at all.
As for the sweater yep I wore a couple this week with my gore tex hunting jacket to keep the wind from taking me away.

According to these articles, we're in for some long-term cooling.

Al Gore is going to start looking like a visionary for having a personal estate that burns carbon and emits heat like there's no tomorrow.
Oops :)

Global Warming is going to freeze us all.

I'm not real busy at the moment.
I am willing to study this latest theory for.... $10 mill-yun dollars!

It was 67 and clear here today. It is forecast to be 68 tomorrow.

Good read, I've been following the NASA posts about the sun observations. Looks like we better keeep cranking the C02 up there, or we're gonna fa-reeze.
Certainly not a cheerful read. Time to get into SurvivorMan mode

Thank God we have the braintrust of The O'Club and all their meteorological training to save us.
-
Snow is piled up waist high along the end of my driveway, as was so long before Christmas.
Global warming my ass.
-
Washington State had a record December for snowfall in the mountains. This is good news if you're a skiier/snowboarder and want to avoid drought conditions in the following summer. :aok
-
well.. don't know about "braintrust" but.. I have made several predictions over the last couple years.
That this natural warming trend would end and we would enter a natural cooling trend.
that suns activity has slowed so it will be soon.
that this winter there will be no more talk of "man made global warming"
That it would shift to "man made global climate change"
That only bad weather would be blamed and good weather is a glitch.
how am I doing so far?

Well, Curval, you could take this opportunity to cheap shot Laz for the umpteenth time or you could read the links Eagl posted and give us your considered opinion on that.
Oh... wait... I see you already decided on a course of action here.
BTW, I DO need 10 mill-yun.... I've decided I really should have about 5000 acres of good South Dakota farm land full of pheasants and enough left over money to truly enjoy it. :) Wanna chip in?

I'm surprised lazs would take a Russian communist's opinion on anything...unless it backed up his opinion of course. Oh wait...that is EXACTLY what is happening here:
"I have made several predictions over the last couple years..."
He isn't commenting on the articles from what I can see...HE is the expert and the articles are backing up what HE has said.
LOL
As to South Dakota, that sounds nice.

curval.. the first link had nothing to do with russia.

Hey.. you coulda made some predictions yourself over the years instead of just sitting on the fence.
I still say... this really nice warming trend is going to slow and end.. it will get cooler soon.. let's just hope it doesn't get too cool.
Maybe we can burn the rain forests to stop it tho?

Did you work hard on that response, or did someone help you?
I do see you were at least honest enough not to try to deny it.
-
Well, the question really isn't whether or not Laz is commenting on the articles, is it? The question is what is your purpose here in the thread.
I jumped in to poke fun at all the money that gets tossed around on government studies.
Why are you here?

Actually, Curval, I didn't see Laz comment on Eagl's links at all. I saw him restate various predictions he has made on weather/global warming and ask how he's doing so far.
(Note: the issue of manmade vs other cause global warming has not been raised in this thread, just global warming in general. I think that's an important distinction as I don't think anyone on the BBS has disputed that temperatures have risen. The debate has been over the cause of the rise. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Funny Toad...you have commented alot in the past about how you think I am smarter than what I show here because I get involved in *debates* with lazs on futile topics such as GW.
[/b]
I think that is an incorrect statement. I think you're smarter than what you show here because you usually don't state your own strongly held views here and then defend them. I think you could; I think you are plenty smart. What I see mostly though is the old drive-by style posts that really have little content.
Much like the first one you made in this thread.
The reason I don't see a need to criticize Laz as a protagonist is that he almost always states his position and then defends it in those threads. He's not a continual drive-by sniper.
Can he be offensive? Yes, absolutely. No, I don't publicly call him on it. This is a style not content issue.
I would prefer a more civil style from a lot of folks on this board. Rather than be a scold, I do the best I can to be civil myself and hope that others will do so as well.

where i live in west virgina we got about 6 inches of snow school only open 1 day this week and in the mountains around snowshoe they got about 14 inches.

Lazs, you danced around it, so I will say if for you:
The article confirms one thing . . .
"It's the sun, stupid."
:)

Well it was good for deer hunting here this past week. My uncle and a few family friends were able to take at least one per person each day this past week. Looks like next weekend when I get to go again will be nothing but cool and rainy.

"The debate has been over the cause of the rise. Correct me if I'm wrong."
I think you are in the wrong thread. THIS one became all about how cold it is and how silly the concept of GW is....correct me if *I'm* wrong.
The thread topic:
37 hours under 32 degrees in Alabama
Nothing overly related to GW.
Followed a few posts later by:
"Al Gore is going to start looking like a visionary for having a personal estate that burns carbon and emits heat like there's no tomorrow.
Oops "
Next up JB73:
"Global Warming is going to freeze us all."
Next up is you my friend, with your insightful, adding to the debate, drive-by comments on the costs of studies done...which would lead any reasonable reader to assume your *side* in the GW debate. I believe I'm right in thinking that you feel millions have been wasted on studying the effects of GW and that you argree with the argument that scientists are in it for the money. Right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Paul then added:
"Looks like we better keeep cranking the C02 up there, or we're gonna fa-reeze"
:)
Then we actaully get the most intelligence response in the thread thus far by rpm:
"Thank God we have the braintrust of The O'Club and all their meteorological training to save us."
Which is pretty much along the lines of my strongly held beliefs btw. LOL
Then an absolute "gem" by my buddy Dago:
"Global warming my ass."
After that the great one appears with his masterful vodoo prediction followed by my comment.
Hardly a civil discussion from the get-go Toad. Mostly just anti-GW drive-bys.
lol
As to this:
"Actually, Curval, I didn't see Laz comment on Eagl's links at all. I saw him restate various predictions he has made on weather/global warming and ask how he's doing so far."
He asked how he was doing based upon the info in those links Toad...sorry, my bad...the one link not written by a commie. :)
As to you and Dago's (and lazs' too) misconceptions about how I usually post...I'm simply not going to waste my time proving ONCE AGAIN that you (and they) are making simplistic generalisations. It is a tiresome habit you guys have and I am just not willing to address it this time. Nothing will actually change in your perceptions anyway so it would be a waste.

The debate on this BBS HAS been primarily over the cause of the rise, not the rise itself. This thread deals with current events; it's winter and it is clearly not rising now and some places are having record cold.
I don't think Laz referenced either of Eagl's links; ask him but it seems he just reiterated his predictions.
Ask any of the guys in this thread if they think Earth has NOT been going through a recent warming trend over the last few years. I think they'll say the numbers show it has. So I'd guess you are wrong about them saying global warming is silly and has not been demonstrated.
I'm CERTAIN some of them would be happy to revist the discussion over the possible cause of such warming.
[Next up is you my friend, with your insightful, adding to the debate, drive-by comments on the costs of studies done...which would lead any reasonable reader to assume your *side* in the GW debate. My side in the debate? Well, if I could get mill-yuns to study it, you could certainly plan on me taking the money and, if it was enough making my study come out any way the payer wanted it to come out. Yep, I can be bought. Can you? Would you or I do a study for $50 billion and make it come out any way they wanted? Sure we would. Would we do it for $50 bucks? You'd be insulted but as they say about prostitution, we've already determined what we are, now we're just arguing price.
My opinion of the debate is the earth goes through hot and cold cycles. I suspect this trend will continue.
Paul then added:

First of all, I didn't see any real venom in this thread. Second, allow me to point out what I actually said:
Rather than be a scold, I do the best I can to be civil myself and hope that others will do so as well.
I work on myself; if we all did that, it'd be pretty polite here, wouldn't it?
Don't want to be viewed as a drive-by? Well, that's up to you too, isn't it.
There's another old joke saying I heard when I was doing ALPA work. It referenced the view of the electorate towards the elected.
"If one guy tells you you're a horse's patoot, laugh it off.
If two guys tell you you're a horse's patoot, stop and think a bit about what you've been doing.
If three guys tell you you're a horse's patoot, start shopping for saddles!"

curval.. relax.. I think you are seeing what you want to see and.. then doing your normal drive by arlo thing..
You are the one who said I referenced some russian scientist because it was linked by someone (eagl?).. Like I was forming my whole opinion of global warming and it's causes on the guy... I looked at the referneces and seen that there was one russian one and one not russian one.. which I showed you. go ahead and read that one.
I believe as toad does on this one.. that the earth heats and cools in cycles that we don't understand half of. That the sun plays a huge part and that man made co2 does little or nothing.
It is going to cool soon. we can't do a thing about it. we could burn every rainforest and set every coal field on fire and not warm the place up once it starts to cool... we are powerless against mother nature and... politicians and con men.
Toads style is admirable but it is not mine.

That's laughable. The most angry bitter folks around are the Liberals. Remember Nash's meltdown? :)

Curval, this thread was basically a weather report with some lighthearted joking GW commentary tossed in.
If you took it for more than that, that would be your own personal problem.

wow, something I agree with you on politically or what not :)
I think the alarmists are completely wrong...
to quote a local morning show's comments on it:
"You scientists really think we can put a 'thermostat' on the freakin planet?? any "control" we have on the global climate is having a plane seed some clouds and not even always getting rain. we can't even predict tomorrows weather with any reliability, let alone 10-100 years from now."
more and more evidence comes out showing this and that may be responsible for climate change, all things we have no control or impact over.
-
Been warmer in SW VA of late, due solely to high pressure systems coming from the Gulf, pushing away the Canadian air we usually have this time of year...I guess if I were a die-hard 'climate-change' guy, I could figure out how to call this man-made
