Title: Variance in Delay
Post by: Zulu58 on January 05, 2008, 01:34:40 AM
Hey guys, im new to AH2. I got a new laptop, that runs Vista home premium. I have 2G of RAM, a GeForce 8600M GS with 256MB, the intel Centrino Duo processor, and a comcast connection. I just tested the speed, its downloading @ 5 meg and uploading @ 365k. My problem is my variance looks like a rollercoaster, and i warp more than the enterprise. I dont have any trouble launching the game, and ive tried adjusting my video settings but nothing helps. I dont know ***** about computers, can somebody help?

If you can pop a pingplot up here (pingplotter is a free d/l), check out the stickies on the top re Vista and how to make it smoother etc, and check your set to desktop power settings instead of energy star. Also, you need to make sure you have as much resource as possible available - which is what the thread about vista helps with. Your variance could be caused by something "calling home", updating etc.

Also, if you can do a dxdiag (start, run dxdiag) and put the first third in a post here - the guru's can take a look and advise etc.

First ctrl alt dlt and see what processes are running.  Applications also.  You want to shut any apps down that you don't need, especially ones that auto-update.

Also, go to my computer or w/e, find power settings, and make sure its not on energy star.  I believe they ship them from the factory at that setting to save energy:huh ...  Change it to normal setting or pc/desktop (thats what mine is), fixed my warping for me.
