The subject says (almost) it all:
is it possible in AH, with a fighter? Is it practical?
-
No, everytime you bomb the loft, the entire building blows up. Maybe HT can coad lofts to be separate?
What have you got against lofts anyway?

:rofl
Gian ... I think that is more commonly called "toss" bombing.
Yes it can be done in AH ... I have done it many times. I believe that a bomb has to travel either 800 ft or 1000 ft for it to arm, so alt has nothing to do with. If you have the right speed ... start a pull up ... release ... it will travel far enough and detonate.
Is it practical ? ... hard to say. If it's your only option then do it, else dive bombing would be a more preferable way.

Err...what is loft bombing? :o

Believe that Loft Bombing is the RAF term for Toss Bombing. Basically you go very fast, pull up, release the bomb in the climb so that it flings the bomb a long way and gives you chance to fly away.
It is used to deliver nuclear bombs and bombs into heavily defended areas to minimise risk to the attacking aircraft, but obviously accuracy is reduced.
-
Ohh I've used that before...It works well for me when bombing towns...
But like Slap said, I'd rather dive bomb than loft bomb.

Are you saying you're a tosser? <> Furry. I had too.

It works against multiple flakpanzers too, i used to sometimes loft bomb Gv's before coming into range of the defensive fire - works pretty well, especially in something like an A-20 where you can drop multiple bombs at different angles to maximise your chance of hitting one of them.

LMFAO. You're missed on 200 m8. You need to dust off the stick and throttle.
<> and hopefully I can talk the wife into coming over to England. Would love to meet you, LYNX, Biggles and others.

You should try and come over during the summer to try and catch a few airshows. It is the 90th anniversary of the RAF this year, so there is bound to be some cool ones for that!
Just have no motivation to play the game anymore, which i think is a good thing, as it is very addictive and impacts RL... Although after a break from the bbs i am enjoying being back poking fun at people :D Thanks and

I was just gathering some info to bomb your loft, you little English bastige! :rofl
How're you doing? We miss you. :) Good to know that there will be lot of good Air Show this summer in UK, I may decide to come there and harass you!
Btw, toss bombing (and I even used the RAF term, you ungrateful!) is not only used for nuclear devices, today jets have a HUD page dedicated to this technique. Of course, it's not the most precise one, but can be useful, especially with area damaging munitions, like cluster bombs. Indeed, I was experimenting with it in Lock On, that's why I wondered if it could be done in AH.
Thanks for the answer, Slapshot.... how could you bear that lil punk??? :D
EDIT: Sorry, it's not a "dedicated HUD page", it's just that the software allows such type of release. My bad.
-
I've used it against a Task group in a A20 before. But getting the variables right is very tricky.
Done right you can lob those bombs in through the ack while your well outside and going the other way.
So yes it can be done, but its tough to be accurate.
-
The HUD page for Dive Toss gives you the CCRP (Continuous Calculated Release Point), when supposedly you have to make release of your ordnance.

Heh, just some time this past weekend a bunch of my squaddies were helping take a field via CV. I upped a CHOG with rkts and 1 1k bomb (and 1 DT). I used the rockets on something right away, I don't recall what. Anyways, I'm a little off shore, still heavy, and have cons closing in behind me. I REALLY wanted to land a hit with that bomb, so I, not knowing about this thread, toss bomb it. I loop up, drop at just about the right moment, hoping to hit the dar or the VH or something, and come around to engage the big horde of reds.
As I'm angling in on a con I get a "Gun Emplacement Destroyed" message.
:rofl
1,000lbs for an ack gun. Oh well! Better than nothing!

it does really great aginst CV:t
-
For any type of repeatable accuracy, Panos has it. You need a HUD with CCRP mode. You're gonna be waiting on a Cold War or Desert Storm arena for that.

I was about to say, every time I log on I see it used to kill a CV.

Ive done it in the Jug. You have to be at least 1k from the target. AT that time raise the nose and let the egg go. My success rate is about 80%. I rather dive on them because I end up getting the bad end of some bad panzers main gun. LOL

i'm awful in a GV but had one of my better runs yesterday, 8 kills in an M4 and I think 6 were AC. :D

I was in a c-hog providing hi alt cap. I assumed buffs on there way. Then i notice buffs NOE under me. All 234's scooting over 400mph. THey all tossed them at the carrier. End result was they sunk the cv (already damaged and they got away. Well 3 didn't.

I was finishing up a town with an F4U-1D and accidentally released a 1K almost at the top of my loop into the next dive. It's kind of disconcerting to look out the side of your cockpit and see a bomb flying along side. The bomb continued to travel in it's arc long after I'd commenced the next dive, and it passed me again on it's way down as I was making my way up on the other side of town after extending from the dive..
-
I remember killing an M16 speeding along that way by tossing 2 bomblets from a FW190F8.
I roughly aligned the gv from at least 1,500 yards, climbed, dropped both bombs with a 1-sec interval then banked away and set route for RTB, not really hoping for anything. A few secs later, I read that I had scored the kill (with those small ordnances, it must've been a direct hit).
I bet that I was even more surprised than the unlucky guy
-
I do it all the time in the b25H, but it has external so its easier.
-
I did it in a lanc yesterday after we took A85...it was quite fun. :t

Was that you at the spawn and tagged me 6 times with your main....LSK I believe. If it was it shows that I learn very slow. That was really funny.
