I got a GEforce8600GT card, and it said the PSU needed to be minimum 350 watts and 22 @ on the 12 volt line,so I go and buy a new PSU,well,it has 2 PCIe classic 6 pin configuration plug-ins for PCIe cards requiring more power, but my card has a 4 pin molex..??? I am scratching my head here..
Do I need an adapter,or can one even be gotten for a 4 pin molex to a 6 pin PCIe??Will the 4 pin molex plug give it enough juice? my PSU has 2 22@ 12 volt rails, but I cant use the PCIe plugins. ::confused:
Just seems strange to me..
Thanks,
Kevin

What brand card is it, do you have a link? That's surprising with a 8XXX card.

Use a HD power plug. Make sure nothing else is plugged into that strand.

Here is the card I got from newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130290
And I am not sure what you mean krusty..
Thanks,

A four-pin Molex cable is the common style of connector (and is on the 12 volt rail, IIRC). Same connector used on hard drives and optical drives. Simply plug one into your video card and be sure that nothing else it plugged into that strand of wires. It puts a strain on the other rail, but the card needs the power.

Heck my 2900HD takes two rails of power.

I think my Radeon 3870 takes a 6 pin connector.

You can get an adapter that takes 1 or 2 4-pins and gives you that 6-pin. Newer power supplies come with the 6-pin PCIe already built-in. Mine has one of these, but I don't need it.
