Title: Here's one i always wanted to know:

I look out at my wings and see, maybe, 3 kinds of damage: big holes, little holes, glancing type hits.

Do these actually represent different amounts of damage? Or are these graphics just randomly assigned for any sort of wing damage?

Different types of damage.

Little holes = small single hits
Big holes = at some point the damage had accumulated, either that or a bunch of hits all landed right in the same spot
Tear/slash = I notice these most with cannon hits that don't do structure damage.
