Title: microsoft sidewinder 2 FF
Post by: crockett on January 09, 2008, 07:58:41 PM
I recently dumped my install of Windows Vista and reinstalled XP with SP2 because I was having a lot of issues with Vista. I plugged in my sidwinder FF2 and it does work with the default windows software, but it just don't feel right.

The stick feels real sloppy at times and I can't get the full potential out of the planes like I used too. I also can't adjust the amount of force feedback it gives which results in the stick going crazy if I'm shot down. The stick starts flopping all over and I have to unplug it's power and pull out the USB cable, because it wont stop even after I'm dead.

It worked fine in Vista with no extra drivers but I can't find the drivers I used before with XP. I've searched google and can only find drivers released in 2000.

I know there are people here that use this stick, so I figure someone might know where I can D/L the drivers for it. (MicroSucks no longer supports it)

My stick lost its feel long ago. Not sure which patch it was but I remember how it felt when it happened.

I also use the MSFF2 - if you like I can try and send a copy of the install CD or file folder to you.  Just let me know where to send it.  :aok

Na that's ok,thanks 4 the offer though.  I was just looking for a place to D/L it. I'm starting to get used to it, so it's not bugging me as bad.

I did find a place that has some new SW FF2 sticks still in boxes so I plan to order one because my stick has a few bad buttons that I need to fix.

I was kinda toying with just buying that X92 or what ever that satek stick is, but I'm not sure if I'd like the separate throttle controller.

I also have a FF stick, I don't know if your aware there is an option in the game to where you can adjust the amount of FF the stick gives, it lets you lower or raise the percent.

I can almost guarantee, you'd love it.  Except, I know you, and you are pretty weird and may be the only person on the planet who wouldn't. LOL
:)

The X52 Pro is the latest and greatest from Saitek.

Is the option in the game? Maybe that's where I did it b4, because I know I did do it at one point with XP. For what ever reason when I installed vista it worked fine with no adjustments.

Well the stick it's self looks nice. The only thing I'm not sure if I like is having the separate throttle. I'm just not sure if I'd like that or not other wise it looks good and I have considered it in the past.

I constantly adjust my throttle in a fight so with the little lever on the stick it's very easy to do. I'm just worried about having that big throttle would be comfortable after a hour or two of playing.

The other thing, is I have owned a Saitek stick in the past and broke it fairly easily. Granted it was a cheap one but I ended up getting the SW FF2 after that.

Yeah it's in the game, just go under options, then controls, then you'll see a force feedback section were you can adjust it.

you will find the throttle is better and also has buttons on throttle so i almost never have to use the keyboard
