SS11 of VMF-122. Most unusual markings for a Corsair.

well it looks realy good needs to get derty though
-
Should it be metalic or grey the way you have it skinned? The text seems to say it should be metalic, although I'm by no means an authority on these issues.
A metal hog would be sweet.
-
Saxman, your a great F4U skinner i must admit, but i'd rather see a tri-color or blue Corsair
-
Most of them are. ;) I liked how different this one looked.
The main problem with the F4Us is that the only real difference between the skins is the variation in just how dirty and beat-up they look, since the USN/MC didn't allow decoration to the extent that the USAAF did. There's a few out there with nose-art that's a bit interesting, tho.

The text says it was painted "Aircraft Aluminum".
-
Probably something similar to the lacquer used in pre-war USN fighters. The color I have probably does need some adjustment, tho.

Exactly. But what would that really look like? Kind of how the P51's wings are painted? If so, Fester's Big Beautiful Doll P51 skin would be the standard for "aircraft aluminum."
-
I agree with Stang here. While it wouldn't have a "POW" type glare of some BMF skins, I think the specularity needs to come up a good deal. Further, the overall finish has a bit of a blue hue that I think needs to go away.
There's a P-51 based in Carson City, and the owner painted the entire plane in an aluminum metalic paint job (I'm assuming for corrosion prevention purposes just like this one was) and until you get up close, it merely looks like a very consistent BMF. Not a polished aluminum finish, but certainly not quite as flat as what you're showing in the screen shot.
My two cents,
-
Just remember it's my first metallic skin finish. ;)
-
Sigh, but its not a metal skin, its painted.

OK...Looks from the picture that the paint has a specular nature...Its reflecting some light.

You did this F4U? How many BB names do you own? :rofl
-
I keep the voices in my head under very strict lock and key. If one of them got loose and created a new account on the boards it's news to me. :noid
-
Updated so it's less blue.

:huh What are you trying to say?

You said you did a good job on the painting, as if you painted the skin. I was just questioning if you were Saxman as well. :p

I would like to see the tail in better light.
And you lettering under the canopy is falling into the size creep bug there due to stretching. You can adjust this and it will come out even.
Sure does look grey. Gonna stand out like a white goose on a lake full of canadian geese.

Unfortunately my monitor is going out, so it's very dim and I can't see myself how the lighting looks at this angle. :-/

It looks fine, It had appeared a darker Grey in the earlier photo. Nice looking and unique skin.

Ain't THAT the truth. F4U's are BORING. I spent a few weeks building F4U skinning files only to decide one looks just like another and drop the whole thing.
-
Actually, you can get some interesting variation with how banged up and dirty they are. 17883 and Vargas Cowgirl are two examples.
-
Saxman,
Have you submitted this yet? I can't wait to fly it, I'll have the magazine article sitting in front of me as I do :D :aok
-
Yup. Submitted along with VMF-214's 17740 and VMO-251's White 22 early last week.
