turned off almost all my services, nuthin changed....anyone else have this?
-
Just tried all the arenas from the house and connected up just fine.
Anti-virus? Norton Security? Behind a router?
-
yeah im beinhd a router linkys...ill try disconnecting it...kinda weird i can get into some arena and not others..all the Norton stuff turned off though

u have to configure your router open ports 2000 through 6000
aloww it acess
-
yep allow aceshigh 2000-6000 for your pc's ip in the linksys routor.
beshure its password protected too .
(it happens to me when ever the power goes out ..or i roll my networks ip's )

my squad mate got a problem in that he can only get in the blue arena and other arena and he gets booted,
no router a stright dsl conction
only been happening since last server upgrade
-
i dont think ports are the prob...if i click on the arena long enuff eventually ill get a good conection..takes about 6 or 7 trys

I would really like to find ouot what is causing this. Not having direct control over the computersm which are having this problem, and they are a small group makes it difficult.
What triggered it is more than likely the added ports and new IP address the server has.
This suggests firewall, or anit-virus. Possibly the ISP blocking a specific set of ports. It could be security software. By the way, Norton and McAfee patch the Windows kernel as part of thier installation. Once that patch is done, it cannot be undone. Removing the software does not remove the patch.
That aside, it would interesting to see what commonalities there are in these systems, if any.
I cannot duplicate this issue no matter when I try or where I try from (home or work). It is not the server itself causing this. If it was, it would effect everyone equally.
-
all this happened after my latest Norton update ... just fyi
-
It would not surprise me if Norton is the culprit. I know Norton, when running under Vista, will in fact block the game from acessing the servers and there is not a setting anywhere in Norton that allows it the game to work correctly. That's under Vista.
The only option Vista users have is to remove Norton and, in some case, ac omplete re-install of the operating system is required to get things working correctly again.
-
well I have xp home...isopening the ports 2000-6000 the fix?
-
The game uses a subset of ports in the range of 2000-6000 for both UDP and TCP. Depending on your firewall/router then you might have to do that.
It used to be 2000-5000.

How does one open ports?
-
Only applicable if you have a router or if your software firewall has port based settings available.

seriously how do you open the ports?....my linskys software doent have any options for this
-
If you guys can't help (and you haven't), why bother posting? I'm all for cutting up, but is a tech support post from a player who can't connect the right place for that?.
Got to the Router setup screen, set the port range, still nothing. Is there a thread on router setup for noobs or something around here?
-
Every router is different, unfortunately. I do not have access to a Linksys router. All routers have a built-in firewall though. They all default to allow normal Internet stuff.
Just out of curiosity, have you tried power cycling the router? Consumer routers ar enot the most robust routers around and need to be re-booted occsionally.
If possible, you could also try by-passing the router to see if the problem persists.

tried using norton unisntall tool on website...no joy...recycled power on router than reset factory settings on router...no joy
bypassed router and everything ok...except i can only use one pc in my house now...
could use a good tutorial on router forwarding...tried many times to open ports on lynskys page..it says I was successful, but still no joy on getting into game
Help me obi wan

Ok, so it is the router.
What model router? Even Linksys is not consistent between models.
-
ok i restarted computer...router is bypassed and now its doin the same thing...instant udp loss
-
Hopefully we got a handle on this now.

Maybe you have heard of this one Skuzzy.....
(keep in mind I am speaking XP or earlier here, not sure about Vista)
A friend of mine is network admin at a local hospital. When they get new rigs to set up, before they run ghost or their disc image or whatever, they ditch Norton AV (which sometimes comes pre-installed). They ALSO use a program that might even be free/shareware called NONAV
(NONortonAntiVirus), because the normal Norton uninstall doesn't remove everything. This NONAV rips it out by its guts though.
But whatever the problem is, I say BLAME COMCAST (even if you don't have it) it's all their fault.
-
I have heard of that utility. The problem is there is nothing that can undo the patches Norton and McAfee apply directly to the Windows kernel.
The only way I have found to make a computer appear as if Norton or McAfee has not been installed is to do a complete installation of the operating system again.
Of course, that is not an option with most OEM computers, which is why I stay away from OEM computers as well.
-
Bummer.
I blame comcast.

Low and behold, he was on last night, connected just fine. Then, a short while later, discoed and showing 100% PL in DC somewhere.
Maybe just an ISP issue, too much traffic in the DC area?
-
Could also be weather related.
