The 'vette gets uglier every year. It's time to put that pony back in the barn.
Corvette has been riding on "name" for a long time. Retire it.

Well, I would suppose I am neither BBBB. I merely stated an opinion.
Not to sound too uneducated, but what exactly defines "semi retarded"?
Would that be like a balloon being partially inflated ,or undercooked bread?
Or is that what the average illiterate hillbilly terms someone who they disagree with nowadays?
You notice how I didn't call you illiterate, or a hillbilly?
:rofl

The ZR-1 is ~$100,000
I'm having doubts if this new ZR-1 can even beat the GT-R in some of the worlds most prestigious race tracks :p (Talladega doesnt count ;) ).
-
They need to do like Ford did with the Mustang and re-design one of the older classic Vettes.
-
I'll be damned the Blue Devil lives. Didn't think there was a snowballs chance in hell the GM beancounters would ever put it into production.
-
There was a car in that video??
-
The car was boring... but that woman in the red top was worth watching.

No, it's typing negative things about car simply because you can't afford one. you have corvette envy.

Yeah, The 'Vette is up there-but the GT-R is reportedly selling for $80k...Which kinda makes the price a moot point, because most people who can afford an $80k car, can most likely buy a $100k car.
That said...The ZR-1's blown 6.3L LS-3 makes 600 H.P. by the low estimates, maybe up to 650. The GT-R will be somewhere below 500. As far as handling, No-one knows' yet, But reportedly better than the Z06.
I dunno...looks' like they need to shovel some more rice into the GT-R! :lol

the 08 corvette coup starts at $46,950, they are nice little cars.
not everyone needs 600+ HP.
-
You right about that, 430HP in a light little car is a respectable number no doubt. That is a whole lota bang for your buck.
On a side note..how many Rolex 24 wins does the GT-R have? Better yet, how many Le Mans wins does the GT-R have..ohh thats right. It has never been raced.
-
The GT-R wasn't even in the US at the time of the Rolex24's, IIRC. The GT-R probably could have won Le Mans if it had been supported by a factory effort. If Mazda could do it with the 787B, Nissan could've done it with the GT-R too.
In fact Nissan has recently pulled all support from just about every class of racing it was involved up to date. It could be to focus their resources on a factory solution for something like the Rolex or one of those Le Mans knock offs, if not Le Mans itself...

It looked OK I suppose. I'm not all that impressed by a newer vette, I like the older ones before they concentrated on the wedge shape.

I'm not a fan of the looks... but Diablo is 1000% right... The Vette is definitely here to stay.

that belongs to the GT-R now:)

you guys are kidding? you don't think that is a good looking car?
Plus, like all small block chevy's you can pick up another couple hundred HP without taking out a second on your house.

That has yet to be determined.
And what Lazs said X1000.
Plus, I already posted the ZR-1 debut about 3 weeks ago.

For the "Corvette bashers", I have to say that I wasn't really impressed by the Corvettes. Two years ago, we picked a 2002 Z06 for $31K with 21,000 miles. OMG, was I up for a surprise. The thing was scary fast in the acceleration, the handling and braking was also impressive. We went on and put a charger+methanol cooling kit from J&D covette from Los Angeles and ended up with 614RWHP.
There are very few cars on the market like the Z06 that allow you to just put a charger to reach 600RWHP AND you have to do NOTHING else to drive with a reliable engine, still great handeling and braking abilities. IRS/brakes/engine internals/transmission were already strong enought.
That to me is a testament of a cra well engeneered. It's my feeling that the Corvette bashers have yet to test drive one.
:)

At $80k???? Me thinks' not. As far as being a good performance deal, It now has to compete with the base 'Vette, which gives you 430 HP (Same neighborhood as the GT-R) for something like half the price. For $47k you can get a Shelby GT500KR, which makes 540 H.P. Although I'll admit, the Mustang won't get you the handling of the 'Vette. Then there's still the Dodge Viper. The SRT-10 is right there with your GT-R at $80K, but the viper WILL have more H.P. As far as the handling, We've yet to see any road tests' on the GT-R comparing it with any of these' cars I've listed, so that is an open argument.
-
Vettes are for "Disco Stews" and old men trying to pretend they are young.

Gorgeous! I'd drive it.

Yup unlike euro and japan, American manufacturers are not trying to squeeze every last ounce of hp out of production engines. This allows for backyard wrenches to gain hp for cheap.

Yawn, as usual, seriously underwhelmed. I'll take the engine out of it and drop it into a new Camaro though...

I like the way it looks sans carbon fiber & that hideous glass on the hood.

As a former Vette owner (99 C5) I would buy one in a minute if I could afford it. Unless you have driven a vette....I'd say you just don't know what your missing.
Mine I drove everyday....and it was a dream to drive everytime. Handled awsome....power to spare. It was like a dream come true when I owned mine.
I absolutley love em.
-
I've driven two- a '95 and an '04. Felt like I was laying on a skateboard being fired out of a slingshot. Prefer my Mustang.

I don't see how laying on a skateboard being fired out of a slingshot is worse than standing on a skateboard pointed downhill and going nowhere.
Hehe...

Don't you have some beef with Ford you need to pay attention to?

I really really like driving my Dad's Z06... His is a 2003 model I think. That means that a regular '08 vette coupe has about as much power as his Z06, and ought to be a little bit more comfy to drive on a daily basis.
I think they look really nice. Can't remember who mentioned it already in the thread, but it sure seems like a lot of corvette bashers are probably just jealous. That means you too dago :)
As for the GT-R comparisons... The Z06 and GT-R are allegedly going to be priced about the same, but the GT-R is not for sale yet and it will be pretty difficult to get one when they do arrive, so the cars really can't be compared until a regular joe (with about $90k in his pocket) can go into a dealer and drive one off the lot the same day. You can do that with a Z06 in any reasonably sized city, easy, and you won't get too badly ripped on bogus "market value" markups either. When you can buy both of those cars on the same day, and take them both to a track and let the same driver give them both a workout, then we can talk comparisons on price and performance.
Until then, you might as well be comparing AH2 with whatever "sim" voss is making up lies about this week :) Some pretty pictures, a nurburgring timeslip, and a mythical estimated MSRP is not the same thing as an honest review and comparison.

once upon a time Shelby was a good driver and a good car builder, now he just sells his name.

Dodge Shelbys are just wannabees that tried to trade on the awesome Ford history. Dodges suck.

Not much of a boast. Most anything would run over an f-body or a fox body back then. But then again, you could score the chicks much easier in a TA then you ever could in a GLHS. Unless, of course, she was a freshman.

Considering that 65 goat would limp around the track... well you know.:p

My dad rocked the Omni until its oil pan fell off going down route 81. That was the beginning of his automotive vendetta.
Besides, I'm not really a big fan of Shelby Moostangs (except the GT-350H, and thats just for looks). I'm more of a Mach 1/Boss kinda guy. :aok

I agree Treize, more of a Mach I fan myself.

yep.. the good old days when the government ran car companies and all the "energy savings" and "pollution controls" (to stop global cooling) made cars get worse mpg and pollute more.

lawyers can't design cars, sometimes even engineers can't design cars.
