I am still trying to work out how these work. is the higher your points on the roster the lower the rank?. These aren't highly important to me at this stage of  my time at AH as I am still learning the the game but I do try to better myself each time and understanding this will help me concentrate on my flying/GV-ing a little more.

how often does this update. I ask this because I had a session where I continually got shot down with only a few kills between( Honorably Hmmm  Perhaps stubbornly) defending a base and score went up as I thought it would  but the next few sessions had good ones more kills to deaths landings to bails etc etc and it fails to reduce,rather continues up ( faster than I would anticipate )

Your kill list on "kill stats in an extended format" on web scorepage updates instantly.
Your score updates when your sortie is finished.
The rank # is recalculated once a day.
