Tried boarding a whaler and got locked up. Now I don't like whaling in general (although I am aware some species of whales are now overpopulated). But I like greenies even less....

LATEST - 9.51AM: Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean seized two protesters and tied them to the mast of one of their harpoon ships, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has said, a claim hotly disputed by Japan.

AArrrgggh .... I say make them walk the plank matey... did anybody see Nilsen?...

Actually, the piracy was these two kooks boarding the whaling vessel. They are not the authorities and were trepassing on private property. I believe you can shoot someone on the high seas for that legally.

They should have rammed the boat and sunk it and them chummed the greenies as bait.

Agreed. It's also not kosher to illegally board a ship on the high seas. Its called piracy.

Not eat them, necessarily...Just use them to make Women's beauty products.

Hey, if that’s your kink, more power to ya, I am not into that stuff though.
Maybe the people who you get your vast aircraft knowledge from can help you there.

I think it's as much to do with the fact that they are hunting them inside the international declared whale sanctuary area. And also that they are targeting some whales which are still on endangered list
For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want to eat whale meat anyway.

It's not just for the meat but the blubber and whale oil as well. Back in the 1800's, whale oil was as precious as a commodity as fossil oil.

Errr. Yes back in 1800's today there isn't anything from a whale as far as oils etc that can't be produced synthetically. Really the Japanese don't have a single reason to kill the whales. They can't even claim it as cultural.
As for research... :rofl

Do me a great big favor. I'm a marine biologist, and I'm not aware of any "overpopulation" of cetaceans.
Although, defining overpopulation could hinge on availability of food source, which has dramatically declined in the past 100 years or so, in the case of family Balaenopteridae.
If you are defining a local overpopulation or a historical overpopulation, would be greatly appreciated.
Please show me where I'm wrong.

In the strictest sense.. there is no such thing as overpopulation... just too many for available resources.
