Carmina Burana
-
To be more specific that is O Fortuna from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
O Fortuna opens and closes the cantata.
-
Yep, that aint mozart.
That one is called "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff (part of his "Carmina Burana")
O Fortuna (Chorus)
O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurat
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.
Sors immanis
et inanis,
rota tu volubilis,
status malus,
vana salus
semper dissolubilis,
obumbrata
et velata
michi quoque niteris;
nunc per ludum
dorsum nudum
fero tui sceleris.
Sors salutis
et virtutis
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite;
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite!

English Translation
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are constantly changing,
ever waxing
and waning;
hateful life
first oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice.
Fate - monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
you are malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game
I bring my bare back
to your villainy.
Fate is against me
in health
and virtue,
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate
strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me!

Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell is another work that is usually thought to be 'mozart' since it also sounds like his compositions.

Always reminded me more of Wagner or Beethoven than Mozart.
The lyrics could have come right out of a Yes song.
-
I read about a P-47 pilot who had just taken off, and he crossed his eyes. They got stuck that way and he started panicking. Someone on the radio told him to close one eye. He did, and he was able to land safely.
-
My daughters band plays this at football games. They refer to it as the "angry song" hehe. Anyway, nice video.
-
ok thanks guys

Heyyyyyyy!!!!..How can a d11 carry 2 eggs and a DT?
:mad:

Great song, but may be one of the most over-used operatic compositions EVAR. Marine Corps recruiting commercials... movie trailers... Excalibur...
-
I'm also looking for another song that could be a good fighter intro.
It's some sorta epic gregorian chant maybe newage twist song, gah I only know it faintly in the back of my head. I just know it's fairly popular.

Excalibur was the original. I bought the soundtrack just for that song.:D
-
Not so much the original, (Carmina Burana was first recorded what, about 40 years before?) but probably the most prominent.

perhaps equally overused but, I was always liked "Ride of the "Valkeries" not as much as Carmina Burana but definatly my 2nd most fav operatic number
-
This is ironic.
I was just telling the wife that I just started working on an German opera.
Set during World War II, it will be based on love between a Jewish girl and a young SS officer and sung in Latin.
Think of it as a Romeo and Juliet, but with tanks.
Since I don't know German or Latin its been a little slow to develop.

Lol Yknurd. At least the whack-jobs on BOTH sides of the fence will have something to freak over. :rolleyes:

The clips are from the WWII era documentary: "Thunderbolt".
It's a fantastic flick.
-
It is a nice bit of music.
-
Better use of the song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-v6DfYXocY) ;)

haha that song, it reminds me of Simcopter. Wow I haven't played that game for 10 years. I feel like trying it out again.
-
IMO the song didn't fit the video. Nice ditch in the end of the movie tho.

To be honest I prefer the original sounds instead of some song overlay. I can just start playing an mp3 if i want that :P just wanted to know what it was called.
