Title: Farewell Pandora
Post by: Flint on January 16, 2008, 03:34:18 PM
"Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative."

Gutted - Pandora has introduced me to quite a few bands I would never have normally considered.

Will miss it

You can't use a proxy to get around it?

Something like Tor (http://www.torproject.org/)?

Sandman, their website says plugins like Java or Flash can leak info.  Can you say what plugins the Pandora website uses?

I just tried using at work here, and it still works for me...  Must be something with our network setup through corporate that gets around the country filter?

The news about Pandora was that they had closed access from outside the US.  If someone could say what plugins the Pandora website uses, I'd appreciate it.  I could give Tor a try and see if it allows those of us outside the US to use Pandora.

Pandora has been closed for 6 months at least if not more for users outside US.

Try last.fm or deezer.com for a replacement. There was a pandora-like site that let you tune on a genre and listen too but I forgot the name.

Mostly ripley, however the uk was an exception to that rule.

now it's dead for all but the US for real.

I think it's using both Javascript and Flash... but you might want to take a look at page source (http://dotdoubledot.com/stuff/pandora.txt). I made a copy.

dude sucks for non US :(

Though I don't listen as much lately as I don't have time at work I still love what it has shown me.

BTW anyone using firefox (or possiblly IE) I asked Pandora about a minimized link because I liked the small player, tech support emailed me this

javascript:void(window.open('http://www.pandora.com/?cmd=mini','Pandora','height=360,width=730,menubar=yes,toolbar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no,toolbar=no,status=no').moveTo(0,0));

and it works perfect, starts in a small window :D

pandora is awesome and i'll even say that I went as far as to write my congressmen to vote against that new online radio billing crap that was an issue a while back, I still haven't heard what happened about that but I can only assume the bill passed and screwed internet radio.  oh well, pandora rules!

I love Pandora. I found out about all the bands I like today, except Nightwish, from there! I'm glad I'm in the US.

I dropped pandora when they told me it was a fee based situation. If I am going to have to pay for music I'll buy the album and listen to it as much as I want. Other than that I just listen to free broadcast stations.

Well if some of you are still listening to music on pandora and not having to pay for it well and good. The last time I was online with it it gave me a notification that if I wanted to listen to any more music I had to obtain a subscription with a monthly fee. I left the web site and have not gone back.

Give it or globalpandora (whenever it's back from technical maintenance) another try Mav, I never saw any subscription request like you describe back when I used it.

I was just going to start a new thread about Pandora........but I searched and found this one.

I was recently introduced to it by a friend.........and while I know the technology of it is not new......I have to say I LOVE pandora.
Mrs. ZetaNine and I had a dinner party last weekend and the menu was all italian.  I wanted 60's era sinatra/jerry vale/rat pack music for the entire dinner......and man did this thing do the trick.  I'd actually pay for this service....I dig it that much.

If you're reading this and you have not used it yet...........please give it a shot
