Title: Any Way to Suspend an Account?
Post by: Flatbar on January 18, 2008, 11:01:36 AM
Just got off the phone with some lady from AH and was suprised to find that there is no provision for suspending an account for a few months without risk of loosing your in game name and perks.

In the past, been here since beta tour 3, when I couldn't fly for a few months, I'd keep my account active just to support HTC. This time it's a bit different.

I've just had triple bypass surgery with a valve repair and I can't use my account for a few months while I recover.

HTC, please don't take this post as a slam at your account policies and the lady on the phone was very apologetic and nice and all, but, isn't there some provision for a medical leave for people in a similar situation?

As far as I know HTC NEVER gives up a name once its in. My guess is your safe, just prove who you are when you come back and I'm sure you'll get it all back.

Good luck, and a speedy recovery

well I can see 2 sides to this...

first off and my Prayers will be with you for a speedy recovery.

Yes ideally it would be cool for the players to do such a thing, life gets in the way of the game. for me $$ ran out and had to leave for almost a year.

upon returning my account had been locked, and a quick phone call got that resolved by the incredible staff at HTC. I simply made an account, and had the name changed to the old locked name.

For the HTC staff though, I can imagine a logistical / accounting nightmare for them if they were to allow player after player to "hold" online CPID's for whatever time they ask. I also guess the accounting / billing system gets complicated with that. I would guess it is an automated system, and there is no provision to "not bill this account" for certain months. Imagine if they did have to manually bill each account :O

From my past experience (could be different now) ...

Once a name (Game ID) is created, whether it is active or not, someone else CANNOT take that name, unless HTC deletes it from the database.

When I first joined, SlapShot was already used. I looked thru all past tours and found that the SlapShot account was inactive for quite some time.

I then email HTC telling them how long that account was inactive and they graciously deleted SlapShot from the database and I was able to then register as SlapShot.

Flatbar ... if you suspend your account (stop paying for it) ... it will not be available for someone else to take ... unless HTC releases/deletes that name from the database.

Once your back on your feet, you can call them and ask them to release/delete that name and you should be able to create your account again ... minus all your perks ... but at least you will have your name back.
