Title: emo?
Post by: texasmom on January 19, 2008, 12:07:51 PM
Okay ~ emo. goth. whatever. As far as clothing goes:

As an old lady, how I determine what is acceptable (cool) and what is dorky when considering which clothing to buy. Is there an emo (I keep trying to say 'emu') fashion guru around?

*edit* in particular, I'm going to buy a jacket for a male, age 16.  I want it to be one that he actually wears without dying of embarassment. What jacket should I be looking for?

I'd make a suggestion, TexMom, but I have the same issues' with my 12 year oldest son. He's not into Goth, I think he tends' more to the skater/surf punk side, And I know that the Goth kids' tend to be pretty picky about their wardrobe.

*shrugs* I don't care what he wears ~ as long as it keeps him from getting sick.  Manners don't originate from his clothing, and he's got great manners.

Don't care what he wears?  EMO boys often wear girls clothes(pants).....homosexuality is next.  If he's hardcore, you are even worse off.

:lol It is true that most "emo" guys are bisexual so he has a point.  I guess you should try to guide him towards ripped jeans (for males) and the leather jacket like previously mentioned.   If he picks up smoking....blame the government.

Don't worry about the mo/emu thing, an emu is a fat emo kid who broke the o so he has to go cry about it.

Don't care what he wears?

:rofl :rofl  he won't be wearing girl clothes, painting his nails, wearing any other sort of make-up :rofl

But if he wants to wear black, keep his hair long over his face, I'm A-OK with that.  The clothes he wears don't define his character... that all comes from within ~ and on that ground he's already proven to be very solid.

*edit* you know, I'm actually really surprised to have seen the responses in here. I didn't realize that emo was such a hotspot. :)

There used to be one around here (Actually I dated their daughter for a few years)

The oil from emu's are expensive and used for medicinal purposes, meat is really good and can be sold for nice money.

Plus you can incubate eggs and sell the chicks for a pretty good dollar amount too :)

1.     Emo

Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

Back to the original question for a sec... I think any black leather biker jacket would be a good pick. Xargos has a good eye.

Because they seem to mostly come from middle or upper class families but act and dress like they are from very low income families?

Goth/emo kids dress to be individuals. But they all dress alike. Doh!

I had a big problem back in high school with emo/goth kids. Everyone knew I was going into the military. And myself and my friends that were also planning on serving traded choice comments with them daily.

I actually went to some of  the goth stores around this past weekend. They don't even sell jackets?  What the heck? Is their appearance more important than their health?

Clearly emo wasn't created by anyone with kids ... otherwise they'd have begun with the jackets & hats, then worked their way in.
