Title: barn storming
Post by: Yossarian on January 19, 2008, 05:23:45 PM
Hi, this is a bit random (and maybe in the wrong forum, but I'm just wondering if any of you have ever successfully flown through one of those barns scattered throughout the countryside?

no. not sucessfully. aren't the doorways too narrow to fit wings through?

Once I landed an RV8 and drove through one...I got flipped around a bit...

A 163 might make it. Would take some serious skill & luck though.

Just tell the bish that they get free sheep if they fly through a certain barn, then let the fun begin! :)

Tried but I don't think any normal plane is small enough. (except maybe the 163 as mentioned)

I've flown lots of planes through the VH though. It's kind of a ritual of mine in the AHXRL series. When I finish a race I normally do a few passes through the VH for fun.

Try a B-26 inverted through a FH.   Ask AKSketch if you don't believe it.    I was bored before a CAF squad night, a couple years back.   I almost made it through on the first go, on the second I made it, and successfully landed.

I haven't had time to try these yet, but do you think that a Spit XVI, La-7, Yak or perhaps a P-40 could do that?

Also, does anyone happen to know approximately how big the vertical gap under a railway bridge is?

I've done it many times! I just had to get rid of the wings first :) .

Never tried a barn before.:D

I do have a film of me doing a vh inverted (http://www.4shared.com/file/35399783/2f5e3853/109vhhangar.html)  though, shortly before the ack got me.

I've been trying to fly through bomber hangers in B-17s and B-24s tonight, but so far my wings have failed to join me on the other side of the hangar.

Also, I tried to taxi a RV-8 into a barn earlier, and got an instant crash just as I was rolling into the entrance - suddenly I was back in the tower, with a "you have crashed" message.  I don't think I hit anything.

Btw, Latrobe, did it really say that on a missile?

None of those planes will fit through a barn.. but all with fit through a VH. With the railway bridge do you mean the bridges for trucks or for the actual trails? There is a glitch with the convoy bridges which causes a collision.

Tried rolling an RV-8 through a barn. It would fit, but if you try to go inside one you instantly die. Although it is possible to land on top of one. :aok

Yeah, i did it in a 163.  Started at 12k at full throttle, dove straight down, started to compress, pulled back but still remained partially compressed, didn't think i was going to be able to pull out, but I got her level probably 10 feet off the ground.  I was slightly off center so gave just a bit of rudder and made it through at around 600 mph.

The farmer called the base complaining because the chickens won't lay and the cows stopped giving milk.  But he did get famous because a spider wrote "SunBat's a Badprettythang" in the barn doorway with her web (and yes, she did use dollar signs for the s's).

I had it all on film, including the spider web, but the file got corrupted when I was using my computer to pilot my very own Predator drone that I built in my garage.  I don't know why it got corrupted.  But it did, so I can't prove any of this.

Well, I got the quote from CoD4. When you die a quote comes up on the screen, and they are highly accurate quotes. So, my guess is yes :D .

zzz people saying theyve gone through hangars, inverted or not it's not exactly something you brag about :p

I always try to go through the barns with only one entrance. go out like a farmer!

in reguards to flying through VH's this is one i made a video of, from one night in the MA.

I was at a base that had full ack and wasn't getting vulched but they still wouldn't up and fight. So I decided to start screwing with them.

Yeap, done it before.  Karaya did it first and then it kind of became something that just 'needed ' to be done.  Wonder if a B25 will make it through?

I just flew a B-25H through every type of hangar (except VH of course :D ) successfully, meaning I flew out with all the parts that I had when I flew in.  If someone tells me how, I'll post a film of it.
