Looks like a B-26 to me. But either way, he should be able to tell a Bee-24.

Rammstein is good, saw em Live in 97. Damn good band. Excellent stage effects to boot.

You could get in big trouble for mentioning "S.A.S.A.", To which will speak no more. Only to say it's a secret, in fact the secret is so secret that it's a secret secret. And I don't know anything about it, it's members, the exsistance of it or the fact that there is a secret meeting tuesday night at 8:00pm eastern in the secret location (DA) and that only the secret member list which is secret will get their secret invites and be informed of the secret agenda for said secret meeting, which of course is a secret.

Yeah, you guys put together a squad of people that like to fly the same plane but I didn't go "Gee, those SAPP guys are so cool I want to be like them. Too bad I hate flying the P-38. I know, I'll start my own squad of Jug pilots then I'll be as cool as them."

What I actually did was notice a lot of guys flying the Jug in singles and figured it'd be cool if we all got together had some fun. So if we're not as cool, fine. But a clone, that we're not. Just a bunch of guys playing a video game having fun.

So have fun with the Luftwaffe squad & PM me when you get it together, I'd enjoy another rendezvous at 15k outside of dar..

S.A.L.P.??? I saw that somewhere on a forum discussing adult bondage, it was referred to as the Sexy Association of Leather Panties. Which might fit here, too, as I hear you need to wear Leather lingerie to fly German birds.

Saw a 1946 movie called "A Walk in the Sun" about a couple platoons in Italy tasked with solo penetration and destruction of a bridge. Directed by the same guy who did "All's Quiet on the Western Front," it was nicely put together, even if it did show its age in spots.

The guys got off the beach, but ended up killing time waiting for the command sructure to get the lead out so they could get started. Then the Leather Leiderhosen dudes showed up, and some 109s strafed the beach a few times...until they were chased off by some welcome 38s. Nice flyby shots, apparently from actual footage rather than reenactments.

It's dated because it was supposed to be released in '45 but Japan had surrendered and the movie studio stopped all production on war films. I think you hit the nail on the head -- "it was one of the first to attempt to portray the infantryman realistically." It definitely does that, treating the guys less like stereotypes and more like real people, with character development and realistic situations. Can't think of an earlier movie that had the grunts sitting around waiting for their platoon leaders to stop farting around and get going, when everyone knew time mattered.

And that's probably why it felt a bit dated. The "realistic" school has been pushed pretty far by now, with Private Ryan and Band of Brothers making pretty tough competition for anything in the 40's.

All the same, great movie. In the intro spiel I saw with the movie the reviewer said that some consider it one of the greatest war movies ever made, and while I'm not sure I buy that it seems that it might be one of most groundbreaking ones, compared with its era.

And like he said, we can now return to the regularly scheduled thread.
