I do WW2 reenacting as 101st Airborne, and I've seen this clip before.  They did a good job with what they had.  Could've used a sweeping musical score, though.

Spielberg and Hanks are back at work on a new WW2 miniseries called "The Pacific" being filmed in Australia.  Hopefully it will be as good as "Band of Brothers".

LOL, pretty cool.
in "Flags", only a 2 year old film, Clint Eastwood actually used the old school method, - mostly. So 600 extras, 17 Higgin's boats, and some LVT's, Shermans etc etc. The explosions were real (you felt lucky to have a tin hat when sand and pebbles were raining on yer head), and the Howitzers were actually loaded with a "projectile" (to get the punch right).

I think it's pretty amazing how far the film design has come, even for amateurs.

 I am looking forward to this. Hopefully the writers strike doesn't kill this project.
