Mine is:
"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.
General Dwight Eisenhower
-
“The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be gained by harsh or tyrannical treatment. On the contrary, such treatment is far more likely to destroy than to make an army. It is possible to impart instruction and give commands in such a manner and such a tone of voice as to inspire in the soldier no feeling, but an intense desire to obey, while the opposite manner and tone of voice cannot fail to excite strong resentment and a desire to disobey. The one mode or the other of dealing with subordinates springs from a corresponding spirit in the breast of the commander. He who feels the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them respect for himself. While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect towards others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself.”
John M. Schofield

I suspect that Gunslinger knows exactly why this is important for a military officer to understand. I suspect even more strongly that it is one of his most fervent wishes that more officers had this one internalized. :)

I like the funny quotes, not the overly dramatic ones.
There was a famous P-47 pilot, and I don't remember the exact quote. But he was alone in a big dogfight with many german planes. Even in such an extreme and dangerous situation, he still managed to have some humor in radio transmission. It went something like this
"I need a little bit of help, I have five of them cornered over here"
-
"He lied."
First thing and repeated things you hear throughout your military career about your recruiter. :D

This one is very disputed , Arnaud Amaury is supposed to have said that, but no historical source can corroborate this except a book wrote 10 year after the even by a German monk.

Both political and military.....the master is Churchill.
Here:
"Here is the answer which I will give to President Roosevelt... We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools and we will finish the job. "
or:
"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. "
or:
"If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons."
