Post by: lyric1 on January 25, 2008, 02:39:35 PM
Well since it is now on it's way I shall put in the first request for a p39 skin.   (http://www.picburst.com/uploads/09370196ca.jpg) (http://www.picburst.com) It is an Australian aircraft with the R.A.A.F. number 24 squadron.

The 39th got 38s first and the 39s and 400s got shuffled around and handed down..  It's a 39th hand me down to the 80th I believe.  Most definately Norb Ruff's bird in the 80th though.  Lots of photos of his and that bird.

Welch was 80th FS too :)

The P-39 will take the title of 'Ugliest aircraft in the game' with ease.

FTJR might be interested in the P-39 skin...

Shows what you know :)

My friend Earl Miller over the Tunisian Desert on a sunrise patrol in his P39 of the 345th FS, 350th FG, 12th AF.   Earl is 88 years young.  I talked to him last week and he was up flying in a Cessna 152 two days before.

I'd love his bird done.  He flew Airwarrior with us and is the only real WW2 fighter pilot who I know of that flew flight sims.  He did venture into AH early on, but hasn't flown in a long while.  250 combat missions, Silver Star and DFC in WW2.  Retired from the AF in 70.  Flew A-1s as an advisor in Vietnam.

His P39 was named Eloise.  Red surround to the star and bar.  Yellow MTO bands on tail and wings, red spinner, 99 on the door in yellow as well as Eloise on both sides of the nose in yellow.  Now that's a pretty bird.

They flew their 39s up into Italy and didn't turn them in until August 1944.  Keep in mind the Mustang had been in combat for a long time by then not to mention the Jug and 38.  At the AW con in Indy way back when Earl was there as was Bud Anderson who spoke.  Bud Anderson was shocked to hear that Earl had flown 39s against the LW.  He hadn't known the USAAF had them in Europe :)

We might be able to pass it...

If HTC have no intention of adding the D and F we should get away with it... depending on how different the models are.

We have quite a few skins that are not of the actual aircraft they depict in game.

I don't think so Arch, all the German ones must be uglier first, before we get to the P39.

I do think it has a rats nose though.....

Some of these skins will make it look great!

Do we get to see the other side of Air a Cutie? :)

Noting the D model shows both 20mm and 37mm cannons.  Is that how it's going to work Fester?  Option in the hanger?

Nice work on the skins as usual Fester:aok

Fantastic work you guys.   Superfly/Greebo/Fester is quite a dream team.

Really glad you did Air-a-cutie, Fester.    Any other skins available off the bat for the 39Q?

no just air a cutie because it was a reject like quitch :)

they said the pin ups are fine for player add on skins but for default skins it needs to be more conservative.

Man are you stupid?? God the P-39 is a beaut, man if anything thats ugly, im voting the P-51 mainly because EVERY1 has seen a picture of one or even SEEN one in real life. I have never seen a p-39 in real life, a p-40 and alot of f4fs, f6fs. P-39 should be up in the most beautiful planes its sleek.

How does 'every1' seeing something in real life make it ugly?

I think the P-51 is ugly and it looks way better than the P-39.

no way arch, the 39 looks great.

i always thought it kind of resembled a sportscar with that nose and the rear engine, with the intake on top...

i think it's a really pretty plane. what do you consider pretty? those ugly arsed german crates? eeeewww!

As pretty as Il-2's graphics are, it's a crying shame the skinners don't do a better job with their schemes.

Minor detail on that P-39 with the size and positioning of the S/N on the tail, but those little details are the ones that REALLY make a skin, especially when there's plenty of photographic images to work with (having done the Black Sheep's 17883 and 17740 for AH, I HATE the Il-2 skinning community's work for those two birds. Too clean, not faded enough, missing overspray areas, no old-style roundel on 17740's port wing...).

Hate to pull this thread back to life how ever since I started it it seems to make sense to put it in here than start another thread.

I was going through a Russian site to look at their latest updates & this P-39Q caught my eye. It is not that fancy & it is a rather simple design I do like it though.  :aok

Any ways I thought I would throw it out there since it is a fairly recent discovery by the Russian site & most likely not seen by to many in the rest of the world.

It was flown by Lt. Fyodor Archipenko of the 129Th Guards IAP in 1944. He had 42 kills to his name based off the English translation.

You will have to search for his name to view the site as it will not give me a direct link & you may have to use a translator for English.
