Came back for a few weeks, tried it out again, got just as fed up in that time as it took me 2 1/2 years to get to last summer. Game just holds zero appeal anymore, even as an occasional time killer. Same BS in the arenas, same crappy gameplay, same changes that don't really change anything.
When I left last summer, I'd hoped it was going to be just temporary, but if anything I think the game has gotten much worse since then, and I can't see it miraculously improving if I wait another 6 months and try again. So this time I'm completely deleting AH and everything that goes with it from my system. I'd probably be selling my stick if I didn't use it for other games that I still enjoy sometimes.
To the few people I did enjoy flying with, and good luck, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. This isn't meant to be an attack on HTC or a call for anyone to "come with me", just saying so long.

I'll miss your avatar....:O

Then why such a critical post. I f you decided to leave for your personal reasons, why not just say that - instead of knocking the game.
-
are you looking for one of us to jump in and stop you leaving, if so i will attempt it.
or did you just figure on leaving a bitter list of compliants to say 'So long HTC and thanks for all the good times' ?
-
Take care Treize

If I wanted to bitterly list complaints it would have been about 5x as long as that. I actually kept that quite tame compared to what I was going to post, but I don't want to get PNGed from the forums.

Buh, bye.

If you were just saying "so long" the post would have been much shorter. No doubt there are things in life to be miserable about but I dont believe computer games rate. "The few people I did enjoy flying with"?:lol Let me give you some advice kid. Sour grapes of that type will ruin your life. 95% of the people in this game you never even knew.

Sad to see you go, man. I had a good time flying with you. Stay in touch.

I didn't think he knocked the game -- he knocked all the lamerz playing it.
<== Mega Lamerz, BTW.
No point in continuing to play a game you don't enjoy. Good luck, and I hope you find something more enjoyable to waste time with.
-
I can understand your feelings Trieze.
I find myself flying less than I did at first lately. It's hard to quantify 'lame' gameplay for me, but I know when I'm not having fun because of it.
However, I'm kept here, for now, because of the folks on my squad with whom I truly enjoy flying online. If not for my squad and the friendships I've developed I'd be gone as well.
I'm looking forward to CT.
Hope to see you around, but if not, I'm sure it's a loss for the community.
Best,
Toonces

it is a shame to see you leave, good luck and S!

It is a critical post on the gameplay he's not leaving for personal reasons he's leaving becuase of gameplay (it seems), he's entitled to his opinion.

I've been here since beta and and flying since AW on Genie and "gameplay" is at its all time worst by a very wide margin IMO. There are very serious issues that are potentially undermining the game and the powers that be have made it very clear (publically finally) that they are both aware of it and prepared to step in and clean it back up. I'm sure this new release is going to include an awful lot more then just a P-39:D :aok

Agreed. however there are times that no matter what you do it is difficult to find $14.95 worth of fun in the game. At that point i would pack my stick away too.

ghey....Beat it ****..nice drive by attack while you say..I'm leaving, you remind me of the little kids who announce there tuning out 200....

Sad to see you are gone.Just wondering what make you delete game.I have been online about 11 years and time to time got "enought" and take few months off.
Never because game/sim but myself(bored, better things to do and RealLife).
Hmmm... nice tits in your avtar, but beeing active poster in forums i wonder how much you actually have online hours:D

No question that overall the game itself is much much improved. however the "Gameplay" isnt, it is infact much worse. Slapshot and others have commented on specific aspects at various times. Historically the ability to simply move along to another option has always been there.
AH's success has created a scenario where all the eggs are realistically in this one basket. The dominant marketshare has created a reward for HTC (well deserved IMO) as well as greater potential for a new player (or an old one) to step up.
Personally as someone who's been here since just about the start of the public beta (9/99) I'm optimistic they are on the right track. Once you start dealing with a few of the "underlying issues" then overtime some of the "ankle humpers" will go by the wayside and folks like slap can have a greater effect on influencing gameplay in a positive way. He's 100% correct that any meaningful comments on 200 in the LWA get buried...

If you are talking about the game's technology then I'd have to agree with you, and i believe that Treize would too. However, his issue with the game appears to be the players and how they choose to play. That is a subjective assessment and as such your claim that it has "only improved since it came out" would be difficult to prove or disprove as "fact." Try again.

Cya Trez, good luck to ya!

Huh?
For clarification:
First paragraph:
Define "gameplay" referring to source of definition. Basically I play the game as I always have. Fly a plane, drop a bomb, fight an enemy, fly alone, fly with wingie, fly w/ squad, fly w/ mission. I tend to avoid gv's, but I even do that from time to time. Isn't that "gameplay"?
To try to understand the "gameplay" dilemma, I searched for Slapshot's comments on "gameplay" and really couldn't find any using "slapshot" and "gameplay" as search terms. To what post were you referring?
What were the other options someone could move along to historically?
Second paragraph:
To what basket are you referring? I see AH as having many baskets: LW, MW, EW, AvA, all of the special events.
A new player or an old player would step up and do what?
Third paragraph:
Does the "gameplay" definition include the "underlying issues"?
I assume "ankle humpers" have the bad judgement to not agree with you?
Are you anointing Slapshot to a new position or has he applied for a postion with Hitech Creations? What would that position be?
Of course, meaningful comments on 200 get buried. Why would anyone think 200 was the place for meaningful comments? Why does that observation make Slapshot insightful?

I'll try and answer your questions....
1st how "you" {or I} play the game individually isnt relevent. What is relevent is the significant change in the overall "code of conduct". Not knowing your history I dont know what your perception is...I'll give 3 specifics at random as a reference point.
1) The major established squads kept a balance and many rotated. They looked for a good fight. Now they're mostly nothing but gangers...
2) If an inadvertent "glitch" occured and a player found he was inadvertently exploiting a bug he'd immediately relog and apologize (same with a bad connection). Now a player like BPARKER can apparently "exploit" this bug repeatedly without either being booted by his squad (says volumes about them) or being called out on 200.
3) If you look at the map you'll see major factions avoiding each other with various hordes often ignoring each other to roll digital dirt and "win" the war.
The basic fabric of the game is entirely different then it was even 2-3 yrs ago.
Slapshots comments on his move to the MWA are within the last week if you look for them...
Air Warrior, Warbirds & Fighter Ace come immmediately to mind {"Baskets" did not refer to AH but to other game options}
I could care less who agrees or disagree's, but if you hold the PBARKERS and SHAWKS of the world in high regard then yes your an ankle humper.
I have a great deal of rspect for slapshot and many others who have along history of quality gameplay and conduct.

All the things you just mentioned figured greatly into me deleting the game as well a few weeks ago. GAME itself is great, gamePLAY can't suck enough (I'll prolly be back though) Just a bunch of borg cubes wandering around the map avoiding any sort of confrontation that doesnt involve 5:1 advantage. I could find solace out of my jug in the ground game, but the squeakers and their endless search for ways to circumvent actual GAMEplay have ended THAT, too

cya trieze, sorry to see you go, but I hear where you are coming from.
imo, issues with gameplay are not new. However, I think with the increase in player base, these issues are magnified. These issues, definitely existed in some form before the the great arena shake up, and in some way I think arena changes had this issue partly in its sight, though maybe not the main reason. I tend to think I really started noticing a shift in gameplay 3 years ago or so. For whatever reason, dividing the community into smaller groups (by arena) did not have an effect of reducing some gameplay issues. So, I would believe that is some evidence, if any required, that the issue existed before, and has grown.
I have taken many breaks, and ever break has centered around the fact that gameplay has not been to my liking. When good fights are brought to a halt in a matter of minutes, and the only other fights are against gangs you just tend to get weary. On top of that you had some of the other issues above, and some (like myself), just get sick of flying in that environment. Obviously, some must enjoy flying this way, though I often wonder how long the generally community keeps its interest in this type of play style. (not looking for answer and know better than to even think of asking).

Wikipedia ...
"Generally, the term "gameplay" in video game terminology is used to describe the overall experience of playing the game excluding the factors of graphics, sound, and the storyline. The term "Game mechanics" refers to sub-elements of the gameplay, but particularly the primary control and movement features of the game (thus excluding things like level design or AI)."
The overall "gameplay" in the LW arenas sucks ... and CH200 is part of the "overall" gameplay experience.
In particular ... the overall banter and crap that flows over 200, and no one can deny that the "communication" vehicle in AH plays a major part in the gameplay ... good or bad, but from what I see it's the "bad" that overshadows the "good" that comes across the communication channels of AH.
If there was no CH 200 or "All" channel ... this game would be totally different, and for the better IMHO.
The overall CH200 norm in LW is to piss and moan, to be outright rude, and to degrade others constantly ... and PMs are off the chart.
Popped into the LW the other day and wasn't in there longer than 30 seconds when some guy called "Hognuts" went nuclear on 200. His prolonged verbal diatribe would make Shane look like a school girl ... I thought to myself ... who the hell is Hognuts ?, and then I thought ... I don't even want to know.
I stayed for about 1/2 hour and CH200 was constantly littered with ...
"You no skill HO punk"
"WTFG ace pilot"
"playerX you ace pilotHO dweeb"
over and over and over ... there were <> being handed out too, but those flew off the text buffer do to the overwhelming verbal diarrhea that is non stop on CH200
There was a time that these types of statements were not the norm on CH200, now, if your not on CH200 with a chip on your shoulder and degrading the guy that just opened up a can of whoop-ass on you then your some sort of limp wristed wussy.
Like I said in my other post humble is reffering to ... thank the lord that HT created other arenas and this type of behavior is not the norm in the MW arena. If it does become the norm in MW, then after 6+ years of joyfully sending HT $14.95/month will come to an end ... and I really don't want that day to come.
And don't tell me ... "Just don't tune CH200" ... I shouldn't have to "not" tune to CH200 and give in to the cesspool trolls of AH.
That's like having your neighbor's dog constantly taking a crap in your yard and after confronting the neighbor, he says ... "Just don't look out your window".

Come on. Post the whole thing. I need a good laugh.
Seriously, I look at AH the same way I do golf. I enjoy the game, but if not for the company I play with, I would quit. The game is good, but if not for my squaddies and a few others, I would have gotten bored and quit a long time ago.
I do like your avatar, and am going to miss it.

And don't tell me ... "Just don't tune CH200" ... I shouldn't have to "not" tune to CH200 and give in to the cesspool trolls of AH.
if you have been playing that long then you know that channel 200 is the same as it was in 2000 when i started ,, 200 is the same as it ever was if you have a problem with it DONT TUNE IT , and one more thing spare us the sniveling about it i don't tune 200 and never have , and BTW the trolls on 200 have succeeded in getting "into your head " hopefully you will be all caught up in the BS on 200 when i come on your six and not keeping your SA up
-
200 is generally a mess. I tune to it mostly because once in awhile there will be a fun conversation taking place, and it also I can say hi to people without having to look and see if they are on the roster, then tune to.
The only real solutions to 200 that I can see is either having more mods and stricter rules, or removing it all together, the way the "all" channel went.
More mods and stricter rules I would think would give HTC more problems. Fine line between ribbing someone, who knows it is friendly banter, and someone who doesn't know and takes offense. With more mods, maybe more potential for some players being singled out for whatever reason.
On the other hand, removing 200 for eveyone would have the same affect on the individual as not tuning.....almost. It doesn't mean attacks wouldn't happen, it just means you wouldn't see them. So someone could call you a ho dweeb, cherry picking, skilless dolt, that just got completely pwned. Now, if don't see and and don't care what someone may be saying about you to the community, or "explaining" how a fight went down, then tuning off 200 might be an option. However, then you lose the ability to chat with friends who may be in a different country or channel.
So of the 2 chat options, (tune 200 or not), cross country chat would be the best suited option if someone wanted to travel down that road, as it does not give a soapbox for people to stand on and be a moron...at least not to the entire population tuning to 200. Though there is still country channel, I think many have less tolerance for that type of talk, and is useless to those trying to get a reply outta someone.

Yeah ... 200 (or "All" circa AH I) has always had it's "tools" and always will ... but the "tools" were a significant minority at one time, where now they are the overwhelming majority ... so it's not really the "same" ... take your blinders off.
I knew there would be a tool that says ... "DONT TUNE IT" ... thanks for that ... :rofl
"sniveling" ... :rofl ... more like a personal observation and opinion.

Will there be an auction for your avatar?

Everyone has their opinion about "how bad 200 has become". In the 70+ tours I've been here I have seen first the "all" channel and then the 200 channel steadily getting worst. The friendly banter of yesterday is long gone. All there is now is name calling and crying about how someone "cheated" or hoed when all it was is they were out flown.
I think a permanent squelch list with unlimited entries would be a nice add-on. Maybe have a "reminder notice" at the start of the new tour asking "This is your squelch list, would you like to keep these people squelched?" This way those that want to tune 200 to be able to chat and have fun with others on the other teams can WITHOUT having to put up with the stupidity of some. No "mods" needed to decide whats appropriate, each could decide what they want.
I wonder how many people would be complaining about their "vox" and "text" not working because everyone squelched them? :t

Not to put more eggs in HTC's basket, like they don't already have enough to do, but maybe if HT posted a sticky stating that HTC personnel (not Mods) will log in with regularity to "mod" and swing the mod stick with a vengeance to set a precedent. HTC personnel are "absolute", where Mods can be questioned.
The "cesspool" that they tried to clean up with the arena split needs some more attention. Asking or telling people to de-tune 200 is only masking/ignoring the problem ... it does not solve it.

Blkmgc, how on earth do you detune country? Even when I set all the radios to other channels, I still receive all the chatter.

Good luck Trieze!
When I find that I am not enjoying an aspect of the game I just switch aspects. If Air to Air isn't working I switch to ground or gunnery detail. Probably what I enjoy most though is helping my squad.
I played AW and then moved to AH, however long that has been and I have left both more than a few times. Still enjoy the game, found I enjoy the people more.
See you back in a few weeks! :)
To all those who posted to wish Trieze well. Wow I think that is great!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion... I disagree with your conclusions however. Why you felt the compulsion to whine about AH HERE is a mystery that I'm not interested in solving! Why should you care if you're PNG? You just blasted the game that thousands play and enjoy daily, so I would consider that bridge BURNED if I were you. Sounds like you don't GET what AH is all about!!! Good luck playing "World of the Clueless"!
----now come in off that ledge!
------or jump...
Just stop whining!

Take 'er easy trieze. I'm almost to that point where I'm asking why I'm paying $15 a month for a game I only sort of like anymore. If it wasn't for the 332nd I doubt I would still be paying/playing.

This would be the best improvement to the game in years. I don't care if I have to watch it scroll through my text buffer while it squelches them either.
If the little tardlets, young and old, have very few people to talk to them this behavior may just subside.
On a side note, if a general call to the community for a 'global squelch request for {gameid}' went out and was rebroadcast on country channel for those not tuned to 200 and the greater part of the community acted on it. It also would have a profound effect

I can sort of see where he's coming from but only to an extent. I've been playing online flight simulators for about twelve years now (God I'm old!) but out of all of them, I'd say Aces High is the best realistic combat flight simulator out there and while I haven't taken to the cockpit on AH in about four years ever since getting a laptop, one of the first things I'm doing when I get my desktop computer in a month or so is signing back up to Aces High.
I originally came to Aces High after Air Warrior (R.I.P) and then a brief stint at CFS2 but the community was great. It consisted most of my pals from AW from Gamestorm, EA, and of course AOL, and the action was great and while there were subtle accusations against certain pilots for possibly cheating and/or hacking, it never really materialized, they were debunked my administrators. But as a new crop of pilots emerged, most of the younger generations, I could tell that the game was changing for the worse when I finally left after getting a new job and having to lose the desktop computer.
Now Aces High 2 is here and I can't wait to get back into the cockpit but the original poster doesn't hit on anything I didn't know already - the community has changed and there is now a clear distinction, now that AH has been around for awhile between the veterans and the noobs. Add in the fact that there are certain bugs out there, which I've seen firsthand since they're posted on YouTube (the one Me109 carpetbombing the field each time he flies over it is quite amusing but also unfortunate at the same time), and I can see why he might be fed up. With the money that is spent each month on the game, you want some value to that and cheaters don't make the game enjoyable but I have the utmost confidence in AH's Administrators to fix any bug and identify and ban any cheaters/hackers.
That is all.
