Title: How do you watch shows on T.V.?
Post by: cav58d on January 27, 2008, 07:54:40 PM
I've had DVR for the past couple months, and i've noticed that unless its sports, or something I have to see live, I will let a show record, and than watch it later so I can skip commercials...I never made a concious effort to do this, it just sort of started to happen I guess...

Anyone else with tivo or dvr find themselves doing this too?

I can't imagine watching T.V without my TiVo every again, any time the phone rings, or I just want to go make something to eat I just hit pause, or if I'm out of the house I just record whatever I wanted to see.  Well worth the money for it, they are expensive, TiVo lifetime service cost me around $300, I'm on my second TiVo now, bought one with more memory.

I've had TiVo for the past two or three years. I don't watch anything live, not even sports.

Most watched shows lately are hockey games. I'll start watching about 45 minutes into the game, fast forwarding through the commercials and intermissions. Typically, I catch up to real time in the third period.

I don't recommend you use this method for watching football though. You'll never get off the fast forward button because almost all of the telecast is nothing but commercials or players standing around.

I don't usually watch TV at all. In fact, during the school year I have our cable turned off... so the kids don't zombie out in front of cartoon network or MTV during all their waking hours.  Then during summer months I turn it back on.

I get the season sets of shows instead. Once I'm done watching it... buy another season set.

Buy? I watch some series also, but rent through Netflix.

Our DVR is a replaytv, even better than TiVo when it comes to commercial skipping.  Like the OP, we tend to let shows record, THEN watch.  Occasionally, we catch up because we start watching too early, but that's rare.

I have 2 DirecTv HD recievers. The one in the master bedroom has a DVR. I record the Sunday morning talk shows and watch them later. I also have every episode of Dogfights! recorded and watch those for training. I record other primetime shows I miss during the week because of work.

Step 1: Get drink
Step 2: Find remote
Step 3: Sit on couch
Setp 4: Hold nose
Step 5: Drop 1x 'Oh Shyt' class chilli-fart to scare off any other competition nearby.
Step 6: Turn on T.V. leave nose covered for 5 minutes to avoid contact with the fallout smell.
Step 7: uncover nose
Step 8: Open drink and enjoy the TV

I rent a series usually.. it is in it's second or third season by then.  If there is a specific tv show that I know about that is coming on... rare...  I record it on a DVD-Rw disc and watch it when I have time.

mostly I watch movies..  some series.. never news unless it is a world shattering event or major election.. then I switch between cnn and fox.

In a pair of loose fitting jogging shorts and running shoes. Most times I can see the entire T.V. depending on the gap between the curtains.
During commercials I spend most of the time looking over my shoulders through the bushes to make sure the Police are not coming.

I record the shows I want to watch on windows media center and usually watch them in a little window at the top corner while I surf the 'net or work on the comp.

The only reason I even own a seperate TV is for the occasional playstation kick.

I've found the only real drawback is that it makes it hard to recommend shows to people. I couldn't tell you what channel most of the stuff we watch is on, hell I've lost track of what days most of them air on. The other problem, if you can call it that is you miss announcements of upcoming shows since you all but stop watching commercials.

My favorite feature is the wish list, we add obscure/old stuff all the time and it's a bit like Christmas morning when you look at your saved programs and find a gem you haven't seen in years got recorded got recorded when you weren't looking.

Dont have to worry about it. All the channels except one has the commercials before and after the shows. I see them when they air unless i have some reason for recording it.
