Title: initialization failed with -4
Post by: 2bighorn on January 27, 2008, 11:35:21 PM
I've recently reinstalled AH and sometimes when I start AH I get white blank screen and little error popup with
"Initialization failed with -4"
"Joystick Failed with -2"

Any idea what -4 and -2 means?

Is the computer overclocked?  I have seen failures like this when someone overclocks their computer.

it's not overclocked. In terms of software and hardware, the only change is different RAID card (FastTrak TX4310). I also run remote RAID managment utility. Didn't affect any other application tho.

If I reboot the machine AH works fine for couple of starts, than I get message again.

(Edited to correct card model)

From that description, it sounds like something is leeching onto Aces High or DirectX and causing some memory problems.

RGR and thanks, I'll try to track which service is causing that. If I find anything I'll let you know.

I narrowed it down to DirectOutputService.exe, installed with X-52 Pro drivers.
I believe it's used to display stuff on MFD.
Not really needed if you don't use SST or third party apps, at least I haven't found any ill effect yet not running it.
