Title: Meet Local Players
Post by: xtyger on January 29, 2008, 01:25:14 PM
Just something I'd throw out as I don't know how this could really be done, but have you ever wished you actually had friends or acquaintances that play Aces High?

I'll admit I have NO life, so AH is what I spend a lot of my time doing, but I'm the only guy I know that plays. There is a guy in the far south of my county I ran in to in the arenas that plays, or used to, but I just found him because he used our county name as his username.

I see many, if not most, people that post to the forums don't even include their hometown or even state. I did see one guy that was actually from my city once, and I left a comment for him to look me up but he never responded and I've never seen him in the arenas.

Would anybody be interested in some kind of list that showed the players by where they lived? It might be fun to actually talk face to face with someone about the game for a change.

I'm wondering how you could do it? I would think it would have to at least start here in the forums, or at least on this web site, since a fair number of players stop by here. Any ideas how some sort of location list could be started and run? Is anyone interested in something like this?

Oh, you're not? Oh well.:cry

Nobody wants to be truthful about their location, you're better off asking, "Anyone here in the region of ####?"

I don't know too many people that join this game and immediately decide they want to give their street address. So, no, not everyone is honest when it comes to locations.

I'm from Winchestertonfieldville.  I once fell out of Boo Radley's apple tree and had to be fixed up by Dr. Pepper.

I live in Ballina on the NSW north coast. A large proportion of our squad is Australian, and I'm hoping to get up to Queensland to visit my CO and XO tomorrow. :D

A number of folk play from New England. I'm in Worcester County near the Ma,CT, RI borders. I know one guy in Sutton, one in Sturbridge,a few from Boston, another on the Cape a few from just down the road in CT, and few in NH, and Maine. Tho I've never met any in person.

One year we had a dozen guys from my squad meet up at the Reading airshow WWII weekend, where I also ran into AKDogg and Murdr.

That's the way it is here. They need 2 booths in the restaurants before they're satisfied.

Met one of my best friends playing AW many years ago. He lives half a country away but we still keep in touch, visit each other. As far as people being honest about locations don't know. I am. But then who would lie about living in Iowa for gods sake!
Go to the conventions when they have them. Lot of fun. Get to put faces to names. Dispel some thoughts about some. Confirm some about others. :)

Shamus and I met up a couple years back.   We're adults who aren't "worried about the insecurities of others".

Had I known 5PointOh was going to be up here two weeks ago, we'd have all met up.

WTF?   Only someone short of a lunatic would 1.) concoct this sort of response and 2.) type it and hit "submit".

Wow.
