Just built a new rig with a GF 7600GT 256 m card. I'm running hires textures with 1280 x 1024 screen resolution. I'm noticing a bit of flickering in and around airfields and trees. Anyway to tone that down?
btw...I'm getting 75 fps with that card + a Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 cpu. Nothing wrong with 75 fps but shouldn't that # be higher?
Thanks

If you have Vsync on and screen refresh rate at 75Hz, than this is normal.
If you want to have higher frame rates, turn Vsync off. If you don't experience tearing, leave it off, otherwise turn it back on.

Without seeing a screenshot, it sounds like a Z-bias issue on the shimmering. Which driver did you use?
And 75FPS is the monitor refresh rate, so it sounds like things are running well.

so..while we on topic, wat do FPS's do? (i know that they are Frames Per Second)
-
Low number of FPS = Slide show = bad
High number = seamless, smooth pictures.
-
Max, if you are using the latest nvidia drivers, they are more than likely the culprit. I recently changed to the latest 16x.xx driver, and started getting the issue around a lot of trees. This does seem to be only on that newest big map i think. forget what it is called.

I have a 7600GT at the office. I'll check to see what driver I have installed.

I couldn't find any driver info in the Nvidia tab of the display CP. Whatever shipped with the Abit mobo driver CD is what I've got. Should I download and install an Nvid driver? Which one, if so? What does one do about Z-bias?

Max, I am using the 84.19 NVidia version drivers on the 7600GT I have here running under Windows XP.

i notice a bit of flickering at the edges where feilds and other such objects meet the terain. its not to bad actualy since i turned vshync off.
instead of flashing really fast its just an ocasional flicker now.

Yesterday I flew a couple of sorties with vsynch off. My frame rate jumped way up (80's - 120's) and the shimmering _almost_ went away. Someone on 200 warned that vsynch OFF has detrimental gunnery consequences. Boy...were they right. I saddled up d250 behind an NME and opened up with Hispanos + 50 cal...NOTHING. I logged and turned V-S back on. I'll live with the shimmering :D

omega just released new nvidia xp drivers
here (http://www.omegadrivers.net/nvidia_winxp.php)

I have an older Nvidea that has always done that---minor annoyance
-
There are a couple of objects in the game which do have somne Z fighting happening and will be corrected in the next patch.
Playing the game with vsync off is not a good idea. It can have detrimental effects on many aspects of the game.

FINALLY.......someone who is having the same problem I am having, only did not know how to phrase it...shimmering,yes,and also the lines on hangars when I am moving and or the town houses look like horizontal and vertical hold have gone a bit bonkers..card is a GEFORCE 8600GT.512mb.124bit
Kind of irritating for my eyes, but am getting used to it..

The enemy has put large strobe-lights at the field to distract you....
Those are perk options for the "Arm-Chair Generals"

OK guys..After beating my head against a wall and downloading driver after driver trying to fix my shimmering issue,I found a tool called Nhancer..It is a more detailed and more complete "CONTROL PANEL" for nvidia drivers..Using it I have knocked down my shimmering by I would say 75%...I say that because trees no longer shimmer at all.The airfield does still shimmer some, but much of the "warpy look of the runways is gone as well.
The towns are still shimmering a bit to me,but it has definetly alleviated most of it as far as trees and mountains...
It is easy to set-up.But it did require me to download the 2.0 windows frame to install it and run it..
I cant say enough about how much better it has made the game for me..Planes from 2k+ out dont shimmer like they did..I only tried it offline for about 10 min.but am thoroughly happy with it..
