This is just a wacky idea that I thought I would float and see if anyone has an opinion on it.
I know there are a number of players who would like to see more participation in the EW/MW/AVA areanas. At first I thought it would be cool to have a day each week where only 1 type of arena was active to force the issue but i realize that would upset a lot of people. So I have been trying to come up with an idea to encourage some participation and this is what I came up with.
Most of us like titanic tuesday right?
How about if Titanic Tuesday each week rotated between EW/MW/LW/AVA? That way all of the different arenas would be available and the large population options of a titanic arena would encourage people to log into it even if it was set for EW/MW/AVA.
Just a thought.

Not a bad idea, but what is the real goal of this? To bring more people in an arena? People that given a choice would be somewhere else? Why the need for numbers? What makes those arenas what they are, are partly the low numbers. The AvA no has numbers, but it is not the AvA either
-
I've heard comments from people that like the low numbers in mid war, including myself. About 60 is a sweet spot. There was one night when it hit 130 for some reason. Mid war was gone and it turned into what you commonly see in late war. Each arena has it's own mentality of people that fly in it and a common playstyle that most adhere to. They like it that way for the most part and don't want it to change. Don't want to speak for others but that is the feeling I get.

We had one night about a year ago when the MW numbers skyrocketed for some reason (got high enough even HT stopped in to ask what we were all up to), and I can honestly say that it was one of the most fun nights I ever had in AH. Large numbers of competetively matched aircraft and a lot of great sticks all in similar birds. Was an absolute blast. Then someone reset and the numbers crashed within about 15 minutes as everyone went back to their normal arenas.
I think that was the only night I ever killed Nomde and Raptor on the same sortie, and both were in their usual rides. :D
EDIT- just checked the logbook, it was 12 Dec 06. Got an assist on Husky01 right before getting Nomde, then got nailed by Raptor. It was a different flight that I got his '38 ded.

There's a reason those arenas are never full

Yeah, everyone wants their 1945 uber-rides. Competition is a dirty word.

Not Everyone...I go to LW because there are more people and the squad is there. I wish MW had more numbers and/or the squad would fly there. I like the plane set there much better.

Yes, because so many folks suck without uber rides. :D

id love to fly MW, cos my 190a8 wouldnt have uber rides to kill it.....
-
Honestly, Fill out the planeset.
The limited one we have now doesn't really allow that great a(n) EW or MW experience, IMO.
And then, limit some of those rides to those arena's. For example, Put in a Gloster Gladiator, and a Fiat CR.42, and only enable them in EW. If that's the only place you can go for a nice little Biplane furball, then you'll see more people in there...In theory, of course.

But a lot of this game is to learn how to fly something other than the uber-rides to many of us. It would be a blast to see some of the noobs that can only fly 1945 planes be forced to to fly a spit1 or a p40b that we practice in in the main arena and try to keep us with us. The idea sounds good to me
-
Oh, I agree, I'm not arguing the point. Just about every plane I ever flew with any regularity (P-38J, P-51B, P-47D11, Bf-109G2 and G6...) were MW rides. Only flew them in the LW because thats where the opposition was, was always hoping to see MW numbers jump uo like that did that one magical night last winter...

to be fair, i personally fly "crap" planes in MA and love shooting down uber rides. thats one of the reasons i still fly there instead of going into MW where i WOULD be flying a uber plane....

There really is no UBER plane in the MW plane set.
There are some that are better than others, but the margin of uberness is not that great so there is no real plane that dominates in the MW.
As WWM pointed out ... I like the numbers that we have in the MW. We seem to be getting 40-60 people on average and there is no lack of action and/or fights with those numbers. I think anything over 150 would just turn it into an LW-type cesspool ... no thanks.

I love taking up a Spit1 in LW and killing uber-rides.

Nice dedalos. You have to love the talkers that say I fly the Hurri 1 or spit 1 and kill people all the time. Then when you check their stats have mysteriously morphed into Spit 16's or La7's. :lol Great Find. You have beened pawned SpikesX.

I would like to see more numbers in the EW.
I really enjoy flying the F4F there. Especially when defending against A6M2's upping from a carrier.

Slapshot.
I am talking about 1 day out of every 4 weeks.

Yes Freedom and choice SUCK!!!
The reason that those arenas are "underpopulated" is the same reason an empty business stays empty.
An old trick in the car business is to have the entire sales staff out walking the lot on a Saturday morning... customers will show up just to see whats happening. Down the street a dealership in which all the staff stays warm in the showroom suffers from a lack of customers.
I log into AH and see 15 people in EW/MW arenas and think... "BORING" and log in to the LW arena with the most people.
Come to think of it, doesn't one of the competetors of AH suffer from low #s? Maybe thats why they keep coming over here in droves?

Sorry ... no thank you ... The "Titanic" notion was implemented for the LW players who wanted to fight on a map with lots and lots of people. There is no need for that in the MW ... to either boost it's numbers or it's popularity.
People are slowly filtering into the MW and finding it a good place to play and staying. The numbers are moving up slowly, and thats a good thing.
The mindset in MW, for now, is much different than the LW mindset and I think that is due to the slow growth ... those who come to the MW, see the MW "mindset" and accept it.
The MW mindset, for the most part, is fly and fight ... and leave the whining at the door.

Is that why there have been over 50 people in the AvA in the last three weeks?

Yeah, they are all there for the fight too. I hear the buildings stand no chance there now. (Oh wait, may be those are Early War Buildings) I want to see how you guys would perform against the uber Late War Buildings :rofl

There's a reason those arenas are never full
The biggest reason for why the LW arena is the most used is habit. Habit reinforces strong numbers in the arena, and strong numbers reinforces habit. "Why play somewhere else?"
I am still in favor of a RPS to counter habit: it's the only way to have the player base use the whole planeset. Most of you would whine like crazy if it happened, which would be bad for business, and so it probably never will.;)

DOH!!!
Somebody already wanting to screw with TT.

The fastest way I know to cause a squad to disband is to take them into an arena where there is no action. People don't play to be sightseers only.
Frankly, let them have their uber rides, as they have been called. For every uber ride there is a cheap plane that will take them down and better yet, there are wingman who can do it too. Like someone said, You can't out fly teamwork.

That, sir, is pure, unadulterated horse puckey. That is not to say that there aren't plenty of weak sisters that CAN'T play the game without teamwork. In the MA, teamwork is a crutch. I will 'buy' it when it comes to scenerios. But, that is it. :)
