Title: back round music
Post by: wojo71 on January 31, 2008, 06:08:38 PM
I know a lot of the guys listen to tunes while playing, but check this out.

I used to listen to some old school metal on live365.com down low in the backround while I'm flying, but I have found the best station  to listen to in the backround on live 365 called "rat patrol radio".  They play all the ww2  tune's that where popular at the time including some of what the german and french where playing also. But what make  great is the old war bond commericals and stuff like a lanc crew on a bomb run that they run between song's.:D

to me it adds a bit more flavor to the game and i find to my surprise  i like the music.:)

As with anything free there is adverts every 30 min or so.

Im not trying to be funny or sarcastic, but am I missing something here?  What is "backround" music.  I know what "background" music is.

Thats not punk rock, thats puss rock. You want punk rock try some thing like rancid.

When Im flying I mainly listen to Spitknot, Manson, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and if Im in a good mood Ill play some Chilli Peppers or Aerosmith.

Lute one program doesnt really do anything when running in the background. Its not like a spyware scanner running. Right now Im running winamp and its useing 8,900K memory on the other hand IE is at 18,940k.

Online music programs will cause lag.  I know that for a fact.  Running anything in the background will, but especially a huge resource hog like Pandora.

As far as "punk", i'd have suggested bands more like DOA, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tend., the Clash, the Damned, Black Flag, or even the "Godfather" of punk Mr. Iggy Pop.

(maybe toss in the Ramones and the Sex Pistiols)

Blink 182 is about as "punk" as Britney Spears.

I don't listen to music when I'm flying, I like to hear all the sounds going on in my cockpit. I need to hear what's going on over squad vox too, so music would make that difficult.

If I was going to listen to anything it would either be some classical music.... really dark and bombastic stuff or something brutal... Black/Death metal... something like Behemoth. You can't go past 'Slaves Shall Serve' for some close-quarters knife fighting.

Youtube link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oey85FGHOHc)

^ not for the religious who are easily offended.

I consider it tame but others might not.

I listen to metal while flying, bands like Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, and Elvenking. I don't use online radio stations though, or Music Media because of the lagg it may cause (just as WMLute said). I go out and actually BUY the albums and play them on my little, $70.00 stereo. :D

Downloading is cheap, it is only excusable if you buy the artist's merch instead of the cd (often they make more on this, depending on the size of the band and who's selling the merch).

Downloading is great if you intend to buy their stuff later (i.e just to check a band out) but not owning any of your favourite band's releases is all too common these days.

Greg Ginn is way underrated as a guitarist.  His influence permeates throughout hardcore.

But then again, he's way overrated as a person.  Just as Rollins.  Or read Get in the Van.

Truly punk is dead. When self-proclaimed fans will gap-mouthedly (tm) gorge on whatever is offered up as the latest artificially punk-flavoured treat of the week by so-called independant radio stations i will now truly shed a tear.

Dont you find it odd that all these bands that wear the moniker of punk now sound exactly the same, all the while flaunting the cookie cutter, carbon copy non-message of rebellion against the very things that make your hissy fit throwing, staying out past curfew to play in the park and carry around a skateboard life possible? Is it a coincidence that they sound the same?

No. Punk, like most other music genres, is now tailor made and studio/record company invented to fit the audience. So dont be confused, you dont like bands like blink-182, good charolette, and sum-41. They like you. They play what you want to hear (read: what sells.)

Stick a fork in it, it is done.

Flock is right...

DK, Social Distortion, Rancid (Op Ivy), Bad Religion, Face to Face, Crass, The Clash, etc.

And these are just a few examples of safe, mainstream punk. If you really must lame out, look up the bands that used to be on the Fat Wreck label. They are decent, but poppy and college-radio enough as to not offend your litter sister.

I was reading something with Billie Joe from Green Day where he was spouting off about the "the media in the Bush controlled government".

Basically, he was insinuating that Bush was controlling the media as the cause of all that was wrong with America right now.

As if the media doesn't have a left bent to it and for all intents and purposes wants Bush to go down in flames.

I shook my head and stopped reading.  I suppose kids are listening to his "message" wearing studded belts, low rider black jean, shirts that come untucked and show their bellies and wearing mascara now screaming, "Yeah! **** Bush".  And I'm talking about the guys.

Good pop songwriter, yes.

Agent of social change (ala Bob Dylan), no.

When i listen to music in the background it goes for metal like Haste the day, Lamb of God to late 60's early 70's like the Kinks, The animals, a little zeppelin, and of course CCR. Newer music listen mostly underground indie-rock like Vampire Weekend. Which is this link.

Look up Propagandhi...they may offend your little sister, and The United States Government.

They are opinionated angry Canadians that play music to get their message across.

I don't agree with a lot of their ideology, But the music frikkin rips!

I find them to be close to "punk", but that's just a label that means nothing.

I listen to them a lot while flying. :furious

O and i have been listening to Blink 182, Sum 41, and Good Charlotte before they even were known by anybody. I listen to different punk on sirius satalite radio, its good too, just not pleasing to the ear. O and alot of their music isnt liked (Blink 182 and Boxcar Racer especailly) I just think that what I have been listening to my whole life shouldnt change because its not "super cool rancid punk" its punk like it or not. O and i guess Slayer is okay if u can call them "rancid punk"

BTW, anyone here ever listen to Slayer's absolutely brutal album Undisputed Attitude?  Apparently Hanneman is a huge punk fan, so they dug out some classics and let 'er rip.  Excellent stuff.

On the polar opposite, CCR is some great stuff.
