Title: house-sitting
Post by: Anaxogoras on February 01, 2008, 03:32:57 AM
I'm house sitting for friends and they said I can do what I want with the computer so long as a I don't screw anything up.:D

So far, AH won't even go to the first menu screen.  It's almost certainly a problem with memory.  I have 1.5gb on mine at home, but they only have 512mb.:cry That should be enough, but when I look at the system resources, their system cache is huge.  I already checked the settings to see that memory usage is set to programs and not cache, but their cache is still far larger than what seems normal.  After booting up the computer, it's more than 200mb.

The graphics card is perhaps barely passable.  Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.08 Ghz
512 MB ram
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 64MB
Windows XP

If you can help me figure out how to fly on this I will be grateful!  Otherwise there's lots of beer and movies, so I can't complain.;)

How far is it to your house? How long will it take to go home and fetch your box to plug into their peripherals?

The video card is your biggest problem.

My place is close enough to get my own cpu if I really wanted too, but it's not worth the trouble to me at this point.

Thanx for your help anyway.

that vid card will still play AH ..but you need to use 256 tex, a small screen size 800x600 , and turn the sliders way down in AH .

you may need the correct older drivers too .

Right, but at the moment I can't even get the beginning menu screen to load.

I researched this super old video card and it's not up to snuff for AH.:cry  It lacks AGP texture acceleration...sigh.  Looks like it's movies and beer for me!:lol
