What they gonna TRY to police next?
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0201081fat1.html
Probably one of those DOA bills but the fact that it was even thought about should warn us!

Wait until we have government mandated healthcare. Then you’ll see a whole new can of worms opened. Are seatbelts and helmets a good idea? Sure. Are seatbelt and helmet laws a good idea? No way. The way they got those laws in place was by sighting the cost to the taxpayer of uninsured motorists. Now when the government forces us to all use their brand of healthcare, you’ll see all kinds of laws designed to help us be more healthy, therefore saving the taxpayers money. New York recently banned trans fats. Trans fats may be bad but should the gubment intervene like that? When billary gets her healthcare system in place don’t be surprised if “dangerous” activities like sky diving and hotdog eating contests are banned….

Moving to Mississippi?

So I guess the restaurants are supposed to have scales and a tape measure area before anyone can go in? Test everyone's love handles with calipers? And then what do they say if someone doesn't meet the state criteria for obesity weight to height ratios? And what is the weight to height ratio where Mississippi is concerned? Is it the same as national standards?
You know, a heck of a lot of guys/gals over-fat by medical guideline standards are in very good physical shape if they exercise moderately. Probably a majority percentage would fall in the obese category. What about discrimination against people with medical conditions? Sorry, you're too obese to eat here? I'm sure that will go over well with most people.
The fact it was even thought about by legislators should warn us, that those guys who thought it up are either stupid, or they are deliberately attempting to shut down all restaurants in Mississippi. Would probably drive away a lot of casino business because they have excellent buffets. And they are law abiding establishments. That bill won't see the light of day.

IIRC it's called a trail ballon, or using the lets run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes it, approach.
What is done in one locations, if few object, will be done in your state in time.
Example? Seat Belt laws.
Even the ACLU says those laws are unconstitutional.
I know I called em when I got a ticket for not wearing one.
The Attorney said YES the law was unconstitutional BUT they weren't gonna fight it cause the law was popular and their was NO money in fighting it.
Go figure.
Problem with laws like the above is TAX payers believed that it saved em money. That was a big part of the argument.

Like I said, and the article said, PROBABLY a DOA law.
But you already got the point!
"The fact it was even thought about by legislators should warn us,"
Perhaps they aren't stooooopid?
Perhaps the goal is more CONTROL?

Actually, I don't believe that this will happen at all.

Excellent topic!
Speaking of government control, how do you feel about Roe v. Wade?
-
sandie... roe v wade is nothing like seatbelt laws or fatty laws. I say anyone can do whatever they want with their body. I say that they can't harm someone elses.
A woman can have her leg amputated if she wants so far as I am concerned if that is the fad that week.. she really doesn't have the right to kill another human being. Now.. the trick is to decide when it is a human and when it is just a lump of crap. When does the womans right end? at conception or.. when the child is 30? somewhere inbetween? when? I say.. once the child is viable... once it can live on it's own.. it's a human not a choice or an inconvienience that is ruining the party time.

I see them pretty much the same way.
...but we've had this discussion before. You're not going to change your mind. I'm not going to change mine.

Fat police? Possibly you're right.
IMO I've seen many things that people said would never happen, happen.
Usually NOT the 1st time it's tried, and usually not the 2nd time either.
But all too often, after several tries, and with the help of the media, something very much like the original intention gets passed into a new law.
-
sandie.. I have no idea what your idea is. I do know that human life is nothing like being forced to wear a seatbelt or being told you can't own a firearm to protect yourself (but the elite and the government can).

I'm pretty much thinkin along the lines that Laz has mentioned.
My political view is toward the libertarian stance.
IMHO all people should be free to decide their own way PROVIDED they are not harming others.
I guess a good way to say it is you are free too swing your arms about all you wish until that swinging connects with the nose, or body, of an innocent person.
Innocent meaning they did nothing to anyone to deserve that connection.
As to Roe v. Wade the problem is figuring out WHEN a fetus becomes an actual human being.
IMHO that is when it should be considered MURDER.
MURDER meaning the taking of an innocent life.
The child/fetus did NOT request to be created.
The male and female involved are USUALLY aware of the fact that what they are doing CAN produce another life.
So the question is when does that new life begin?
Some believe not till the child becomes fully aware and other say at the moment of conception.

Really?
So how is the ability to CHOOSE to have an abortion the same as being REQUIRED by law to wear a seat belt?
-
exactly wrag. I harm no one by not wearing a helmet or a seatbelt except to maybe cut into the insurance companies profit a bit.
I am even willing to not do so.. you know that when you get life insurance.. they ask if you smoke. you pay more if you do.
I am willing to pay more (based on real numbers) for the freedom to choose to wear a seatbelt or not or a helmet or not.
I am willing to pay more for health or life insurance for the right to eat whatever I want.
the insurance company doesn't want that tho.. Better a blanket ban on anything that hurts profits.

In that you should have the ability to choose to wear a seatbelt or not without government interference.

Starting to look like ALL freedom to choose, ALL liberty to select your own path in life is VERBOTEN!?

Next thing you know Queen Billiary will ban all computer games of a combative nature to protect us from our violent urges.
-
sandie.. I can see why you don't want to answer that question.. of course it is democrats who pass sin taxes..
not that they are against sin so much.. but because they are so in love with taxes. the democrat tax strategy is to demonize a group.. say smokers...or fatso's or gun owners..
Then.. make everyone else agree that the reason we are all broke is because those sinners don't pay enough taxes.
In the end.. so far as democrats are concerned.. we are all sinners.. they will get around to you if they haven't already.

Just pick what you believe to be the superior race.
Groom them from an early age with an overpowering government...and terror.
Take away individualism, then conquer the world.
Let`s see.......................... Hasn`t that been tried?

yep.. apparently the socialist utopia has no room for fatties eithter.

That's so chillingly true...
