Title: Gunsight site?
Post by: Gooss on February 02, 2008, 12:41:51 PM
Where can I view and download gun sights?

I'm having a brain cramp and can't find it.

Thanks.

Sketch's and USRanger's are very good.  You can find them here (http://www.savefile.com/files/809847) and here (http://www.bops.us/ranger/SightsMay2007.zip) :) .

You're welcome, but it seems I've reformatted my computer on accident, so now I have to use my own links to get gunsights back :lol .

Same package.... just hosted in two different places.  Ranger is doing some work on some and we should have a new pack out soon.

Woops! must've not hit ctrl+c on that last one, so the first carried over.

Well, since you mentioned it, how do you reformat a computer by accident?

I have no clue, it was frozen badly so I shut it down the wrong way (pressing and holding the big button).  When I came back it gave me option of either reformatting and not backing up and reformatting and backing up.  I never got a chance to choose and it just started doing whatever it wanted.

I'm as clueless as anyone here.

The infuriating answer is to use a gunsight you have confidence in.

For dogfighting, a simple boresight dot is enough for many.  Other markings can help stay you "in plane" or even guesstimate lead.

For attack sorties, other markings can help with dropping bombs or rockets.

I was looking for the "no skill" gunsight because I like it for attack sorties.  I'd been specializing in fighter sorties only, but was getting back into attack sorties to lure the bad guys out of thier hangars or to help with base captures.

What the heck, buildings don't shoot back.

Sketch, I'm already using a gunsight pack, but could you please post a link to one of these 'no skill' gunsights?  Also, if there's a text file that explains its markings, that would be great.

Thanks,
Yossarian

Sketch,

The no skill sight was in the pack of sights.

I was looking for it because a squaddie was raving about how much he liked it.  I'd used it before and had switched to a boresight for furballing.  Since I was doing more attack sorties again, I wanted to try it again.

When I installed it, I was reminded why I didn't use it any more.  When the hogs were redesigned the no skill site was way-magnified to basically crosshairs.

Do you have a no-skill site that fits the Corsairs better?  Or maybe have a tip on how to resize it for the Corsair?

Yossarian,

The markings help line up ord drops.

It's still a seat-of-the-pants thing.  With practice, I got a feel for divebombing and shooting rockets.

The markings also helped me stay in-plane with a bandit and to sort of estimate lead.

Practice offline using the lead computing sight, then switch it off and on on alternating practice sorties until you can hit your targets.

So I went in and changed the size and made it bigger and then checked it in the game and realized I need to learn to read over a pre-school level and without pictures.  I must have looked at your post 20 times trying to figure out what you were asking. :rofl
I am not sure why it magnifies that way.  I think it might be the plane itself as I am not so sure about it but I guess it is because that is how the planes sight was developed.  I am sure some of these guys might chime in and will have some more info.  I will keep looking and see what I can come up with because now I am interested.

It's not so much that I don't need to aim, it's that it's usually so ineffective.

There's a redirect in Sketch's that sends you to a spam credit card for Exxon
http://www.surveyrewardscenter.com/?PromoID=15601&SID=11286

And the new one in Sketch's sig, "fixed" by Sketch asks for a code?

Yes there is a code you put in Odee.  Makes sure you don't have the evil bots inside the computers just downloading at random.  You know, like that one Ranger set up on his computer for American Idol!  :p

The other one is porked yes I know that.  I can't even get into that account right now because of that ad.  So yeah that is fun.

Oh and yes it is suppose to look like that Odee with the 2 ..  because it is suppose to say 2008 but is cut off for room on there.

SO... I am switching it to a different sharing program as I am sick of megacrapload and all the stuff you have to do just to download one thing.

Sketch's Gunsight Pack (http://www.mediafire.com/?81ws5wtcw9l)

Yeah I got it somewhere on my computer, never put it in my pack.... I don't think I did at least.

Bronk...
Sometimes we need 'really' simple sights for people.  The one you have up is a perfect example.  :D
