Lately Ive noticed ack from CV groups have been deadlier then ever. Maybe its just a bad run Ive been having but even in steep dives, at extremely fast speeds, I have lately observed CV fire to be pure murder.
Im not complaining mind you. I'd love to see CV groups tuffened and see the CVs last longer. Actually I wish AH would require more ords to sink them, and/or, allow CVs to repair themselves faster. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
And I posted this here in this room to see if I could get some tips on Dive bombing CVs.

You need to keep in mind there are 3 kinds of fire from CV's.
Big black puffy ack, shoots from 3k up, really isn't that accurate.
Yellow AA from 37, 20mm guns. There is lots of it, but pulling Gee's, and little wiggles will duck a lot of it.
Player manned 5" guns, these are often very deadly from 3k in. They have radar fuzed Ack rounds that explode if they get close to an object.
One black POOF in front of your plane and your either dead or missing many pieces.

Could be just the luck you have run into.
I have been using my F6F as of late to take the "teeth" out of the CV Group.
I set salvo 6 and get the F6F to about 8K ... and then fly perpendicular to the direction that the CV Group is steaming.
Once the cruiser is lined up on my 3 or 6 o'clock and its about 2-3K away, I chop throttle, roll over and head straight down for the cruiser.
I line the nose of the cruiser to the bottom dot on my gun sight.
At about 4K I let loose the 2 bombs, switch to rockets immediately and pull up slightly to get nose on the CV tower.
As soon as that happens ... I let loose the 6 rockets and either pull hard right or left and barrel roll out of the ack ... and for the most part ... I come away unscathed or very minimal damage.
If no one is in the 5 inch guns ... or if they don't target me ... or if they aren't very good ... the cruiser will go down and the CV will lose all sorts of guns and its radar.
The "teeth" have been removed if they were planning a capture, and for any bomber that wants to finish the job.

Thanks fellas. Thats interesting slapshot, and makes a lot of sense. Take the cruiser out first. Hmmmm, "adding that to my bag of tricks".

If it is near a base I always take out the cruiser first. Only if there is a vulch I take the CV out. Like SS said, it is the teeth to a capture, taking out the town with ease. I don't like to DB a CV much, I take a set of low NOE 26s and pop as the ack starts to shoot. When I do divebomb it I take a Jug/F4U1D.

If you do like Slapshot said that takes out most if not all manned 5" guns. By far the deadliest guns on a CV. That will serve to maybe allow you to live longer and will help out fellow countrymen live too. I get in the 5" guns and most planes are easy kills....just like throwing a hand grenade...just need to get close.
