Title: need help! wintems.exe
Post by: B@tfinkV on February 10, 2008, 11:40:15 PM: i have tried alot to destroy this trojan/malware and been lead on wild goose chases by a few 'free dowload' type offers. does anyone know anything more than google about this problem? and what can i do to cure it?

This site here helped me clean it all out without having to simply wipe my drive.

Post by: B@tfinkV on February 11, 2008, 10:13:13 AM: nothing has cleaned it up so far, i even paid a few pounds for one scn service. cleared alot of errors from cpu but wintems.exe is still there. this might take alot more work :(

Go here (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5) and download Ad-Aware SE. Update and run these regularly. Between the two of them you should be OK.

With the techguy forum help, my problem took a couple of days to clean up.

1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Disable System Restore
3. Delete the offending file(s) from the \windows\system32 folder
4. Run REGEDIT, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Remove all references to wintems.exe from right-hand window.
5. Close REGEDIT
6. Reboot.

Post by: DREDIOCK on February 14, 2008, 11:13:29 PM: Was going ot say that if you know when you got it you might be able to do a system restore to before that date.
Then disable system restore, which will wipe out all your restore points. Including that file.
