Title: 999000 - Buff on a mission
Post by: Adonai on February 12, 2008, 10:49:02 AM
So I was taking off in an F4u-1a figuring I'd go hunting knits who were hording at time. Lone behold 999000 is taking off behind me with tatertot.

I figure i'd escort these too figure out what they were up too. 4 assists trying to clear their 6 later (which assists means I dove in, but spitfire, la7 etc lost wings by time I got into firing range). Anyhow all I remember next was these 2 set of buffs circling an airfield and shooting planes down. I go home to land.

Adonai has landed 2 kills in F4u-1a

999000 has landed 6 kills in B-17G
Tatertot has landed 5 kills in B-17G

New fad being devloped here, Vulching with buffs! I tried it in Ju88s but after 2000 rounds put into a N1k I still didnt get a kill :(

I've lost alot of planes to 999000 over the years. He makes you think twice about "Oh sweet, buffs. Easy kills!".

Yeah, I did this the other day too.  It helps out when capturing a field.  All the 'uppers' see nice juicy bomber targets and they will all head for you.  So if I don't shoot them down, the friendly congo line will help out since I'm about 3000 feet or less.

Sir Adonai, If I remember that run you did all the hard work ...Many of you guys are excellent at making life miserable for us bomber pilots!

All I did was dive on the planes trying to attack you only to watch wings blow off before I even get within 600 :furious :furious :furious

Leave some for the escorts SIR!

999000 is one you approach with a cool head, a full beer, and hopefully a friend or seven.

999000.

Personally I'd much rather take on most fighters than attack heavies.

The only view allowed while in external mode should be forward view.

If I see enemy buffs carelessly circling at low to med altitude over my own field, I first check the roster... :noid

It's quite common nowadays to have folks up bombers and try to do what 999000 does, but here's the kicker: Even if they fail, they make you waste your ammo, the attackers cycle out, but there's no replacements, and the folks finishing off the town get hosed thrice over.

Keep that in mind folks: You see bombers upping at a capped field, let them go. The ammo you have has to last until you capture the field!

That's not a very wise option. Even the bombers have guns that can kill the goons carrying troops or the troops themselves.

Yep.. One plane, one cockpit, one tater.

Dunno what this has to do with the topic. Only having a forward view in F3 mode wouldn't do anything for a buff. In case you don't know the external views for buffs is to simulate having gunners in each position to give con reports. Since we can not have but 1 gunner this helps out the buff driver. Not many Bomber pilots (very few in fact) are as good at gunnery as 999 and tatertot. So shooting buffs down in general is fairly easy. I see no problem letting them have there external view for spotting threats since there visibility is so limited in the cockpit. If we were to be able to have a gunner for each gun position on the aircraft I may re-evaluate it though. Not like you are useing external mode when you are firing your guns at an enemy con. It's just there for spotting purposes.

Well, obviously if they dash for the town smack 'em down. Most I see just start circling their own field at 200 feet trying to get you to waste your ammo.

I personally never use external view on my bombers to locate targets, thats what the gun positions are for :)

For 999000 and Taters next trick they will up a pair of B5N's and vulch a field near you!   :p

It wouldn't have to be that.  The best view mode for SA is F5+F8.  That's all bombers need.

Well if you are, I personnally don't know how you would be very good at hitting anything without a gunsite and the depth perception aspect would totally mess me up.  If you can do it, more power to ya. :aok

edit
Just saw your F5+F8 reply, never heard or used that combo views before.

Like I said Hondo, I'm not using that trick but it is available for others to abuse.  Looking back from a fighter towards the bombers will give you a more exact look at where your bullets are respective to the target than you could ever get from the gunner's point of view.

And yeah, a macro that pushes F5, F8, and H gives you instant panoramic view of everything around you with focus as rapid as you can move your mouse.

F5+F8 does nothing for me. I've tried it before.

Come to think of it, I think folks have said that's God's eye view (aka CM view) and not enabled in the mains.

Nope, you can use it.  I use it when I am getting lined up on bases and such while checking the entire area for a clean run in.

Krusty Sir, that is a great observation ....the only time you really need to kill the buff is if it theatens your goon otw to the town......I try to break the cap first..using b17's b26's and Ki67's in that order..if you see me in the Ki67..its a very desprate situation at the field. If I can get up I try to shoot my way to the town to assess really how desprate we are ..is the town up freindly enemy gv's? do I see a goon? often can't get to the goon but can call for help and give its location....no after all this I head to enemy base at which time the enemy will have to engage or the enemy field could run the risk of its FH's being dropped......there is so much to think about I sometimes have to put down the "playboy" magazines tatertot leaves in my plane.

F5 from a bomber goes to Fixed external.  It's from the tower or hangar or Oclub that you get CM eye view with F5.  If CM eye is disabled, you get the regular Fixed external.

For years I've always found Buffs a bit gamey and a sideshow like GV's.
Unfortunately there has never been any real strategic targets for Buffs in AH to give them their historic purpose.

Seeing them being used to dive bomb CV's,strafe enemy fields from 200 feet and now as this thread states an example of vulching just emphasizes the fact that buff drivers have been bored for a long time.

moot let me start by saying i only have 1 cockpit (buff im in) 1 gun (seat im in)and last but not least i am only 1 tater!!!!

as far as upping from capped fields ya we do up but most times i believe we loose more buffs than we would get kills..and we usualy do it when fighters are disabled

i personaly only us f3 and my gun positions i will us my right number keys to look under or over as im jumping seats.

but im guessing noone will believe us huh 999000!! POWER TO THE BUFF GUYS!

9s,

Yep, If I suspect it's 9s I zoom past as fast as possible and then stay away.

One day I thought, I'll fix that rascal and come at his buffs head on with a cannon hog. You see that way he won't get but a glimpse of me and well I have these big guns. Man! I never got a full burst off.:cry

I used to like shooting down 999000, when I ran across him an' tater.

I don't get the chance too much lately (less flying time than I used to).

It was fun to take him out in 190a8s :D
