We get them all at once with the patch.

...after which we all send the wives back to their mothers for a few days so we can wring out the changes.  In my case the wife has to go a bit over 5,000 miles, so I'll have lots of wringing time   :D

If you're sending your wife 5000 miles away just for undisturbed flight time, guaranteed all you're gonna GET is "wringing" time. :D

Not realy, remember it only uses x4 .20mm cannon, so the range is limited to 1k
However the rapid firepower will be needed now that we will also have x2 37mm planes and a 75mm plane flying around here soon.

Basicly, they kept adding more and more big guns on planes, without realy leveling the playing field for Gv's.
Hopefully this will help.

Now all we need is the moss to have its cannon, bet we wouldnt have to worry about a tail heavy moss ever again. :P

Whats so different  about its 20mm vs. say one off a aircraft or like, the pt boat?

Its a FlaK38 not an MG/151 or an MG/FF. My guess is that it's higher velocity with a bigger shell.
Edit:
FlaK38: 2x13.8 centimeter shell, 900M/S
MG/151: 2x8.2 centimeter shell, 800M/S

Okay cool, thank you.

Have the stats for the 36mm?

Couldnt find any.. the MG/151 and FlaK38 stats were just from Wiki, so they may not be spot on, FYI.

Look at this, it will help you on the Gun Data:http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/ammotables.htm

If you look on that site, you will notice the data for the Flak38's M/V is correct. But the MG 151/20 is actually 710 mps, not 800.

These numbers' don't seem like much to most of you, but remember, these are METERS PER SECOND. Multiply by 3.28 to get Feet per second (fps.)

Cool, thanks.
For those to lazy to look for yourselves, the FlaK43 fires a 3.7x26.3 cm round at 820 M/S.

The Wirbelwind's 20mm are pretty much comparable to our Hispanos (Tempest, F4U-C)

Hispano Mk II / M2 20mm cannon (Spitfires, Hurricane, Mosquito, F4U-1C, P-38s, Typhoon, P-39D-1) = 880m/sec

Hispano Mk V (Tempest) = 840m/sec

There is 4 of em, there is only 1, 2, or 3 (excluding the temp, typh, nikki....)

Think of a typh gun on the ground.

CT will come when it comes.... I'm happy being spoilt like this.

HTC are going to need a holiday after this. They've really pulled out all the stops lately.

You Texas guys should buy them some beer!

Stay tuned for the Panzer update!

Yeah pretty big difference between ft/s and m/s.  Some people were chatting about the WW's guns on ch200 and quoting 800-900fps.... That's dang slow for an AAA gun.

I punched it up really quick. 900 m/s x 3.28 = 2,952 fps.

That put's it about as fast, or a little faster, than the Rifle-calibre guns' we have in the game. Assuming that the modeling takes that into account.

Of course, it's firing a much bigger (wind resistance) but heavier (more mass/momentum) projectile. This thing will eat up plenty of aircraft, I reckon.

They are much more like the Hispano 20mm

Hispano 20x110: 860m/sec, 130g, Muzzle Energy ~ 48KJ
Il2  23x152B: 880m/sec, 200g, Muzzle Energy ~ 77KJ
WW 20x138B: 900m/sec, 132g Muzzle Energy ~ 53KJ

Well.. so much for perking it.  I'm surprised an AAA gun battery that was fitted to a tank chassis was no more powerful than guns fitted to a plane.
Title: Well we are getting the wirbelwind
Post by: hubsonfire on February 14, 2008, 10:30:26 AM
I'm just hoping it's got a longer effective range. What's the max range of the plane-mounted 20mms? 600? 800? I thought I saw ~2200m listed for the Flak38. That would be swell.
Title: Well we are getting the wirbelwind
Post by: Lusche on February 14, 2008, 10:30:52 AM
Well, it was more powerful than german 20mm guns fitted to planes ;)

It an evolutionary thing. Like most 20mm AA guns it had it's roots in the early 30's and wasn't much unlike other nations ack. And keep in mind that the Hispano was an exceptionally powerful gun for airplanes at time of introduction.

Seeing the shortcomings of a 20mm AA round, the 37mm was developed, and during the war they were working on 50mm & 55mm AA guns:

I don't know this for any certainty but it looks like the Wirbelwind's 20mm AAA-cannon has been in the game since the introduction of trains (fall of 2001). At least it visually looks very much like the German 4 gun flak battery (2 cm Flakvierling 38) that was mounted on several different platforms during the war...including the Wirbelwind. When the field ack got beefed up they appeared to the airfields as well.

Thanks Lusche.

Hub, bullets time out at 1.5K.  Including the Hurricane-D's 40mm but excluding the PT boat's.  It's too bad the HE rounds don't live longer, they could probably be useful even beyond that range.
e.g. a Yak9T round shot from 2K out, straight down into soft or open GVs, or landing on bomber formations.
Title: Well we are getting the wirbelwind
Post by: Krusty on February 14, 2008, 04:45:53 PM
Moot, I think I've got B-17 hits from a yak9T from over 1.5k up at 15-20k alt before. I think that timeout is only for smaller rounds, and only for plane-based, I'd bet. I know ostwind rounds go past 6k. I've been bracketed by some....

:noid

"skilled"

:noid

players from well outside icon range before, so I know that one lasts longer.

I don't think it's true however. I believe the max on the ostwind is 3K or roughly thereabouts. I will test this later.
Title: Well we are getting the wirbelwind
Post by: moot on February 14, 2008, 06:24:57 PM
It is, 3K or maybe a little more.

I was saying the 9T round going further than the generic 1.5K limit was cool.  I guess I'll try it out, I remembered it disappearing the same as every other round.

That was prolly cuz all the new people were joining after watching the commercails on the history channel and the military channel.

But after a whole bunch of people joined up, and demand rose for new planes, they decided they needed to put em in. But i think they should have just 1 HUGE update and put in like 3 or 4 gvs and 3 or 4 planes. (better T-34......M-26 pershing......Panther Tank) and i guess idk for bombers (tu-2, Betty, He-111) and i think besides some missing russian planes, and probably 1 or 2 missing japanese planes, we have all the planes for atleast mid and latewar arenas and AvA maps. :D

3200 rounds?  All that's missing is the ROF for an idea of how much that really is.

It really would be cool if HTC gave it the ability to switch between 2 and 4 guns firemodes.

3200 rounds!?

Dude's, what room for such ammo!?
Didn't they fire like 20 round "clips" per gun ?
Title: Well we are getting the wirbelwind
Post by: moot on February 15, 2008, 04:31:05 AM
It's a tank...

I found this:
"The traverse and elevation of the turret was hydraulic, making a full elevation in little over 4 seconds, and a full traverse in 15.5 second."

and

"Each of the four mounted guns fired from a 20-round magazine at a maximum combined rate of fire of 1,400 rounds per minute (reduced to 800 rounds per minute for combat use). "

So anywhere from 2'20" to 4' of continuous fire.
