Your next gig is in Wise County, Texas. Not exactly the 2 tickets to Paradise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise,_Texas) he had in mind. I'm pretty sure of that.

Hey, Vanilla Ice, Winger, and other acts now play at a small, small club here in Clear Lake called The Scout Bar. Could be worse. At least Eddie Money may get a free steak out of the deal.

A one-hit wonder!

Was a sure sign of change when I had one of the clubs we used to play at in Dallas on a regular basis ask if we could trade nights because they booked Cinderella and Kiss.
-
Sounds kinda like Duran Duran playing the Midnight Rodeo in Amarillo a couple years back.........you KNOW your pop/rock career is dead when you have to play a gig at a cowboy bar.

That explains a lot. The first band I was in that actually got paid to perform was a top 40 cover band that catered to a lot of college events back around 1980-'81.
So we did all the Elvis C., Squeeze, Cars, real bubble gum dance music. Had a good following, full calender, decent $$.
Then we get THE CALL. Our guy asks if we can do some out of town dates if he books them and since it was summer we said sure.
Franklin La, Chackbay, Port Arthur...all the way to Houston and back.
EVERY gig, we pull up, set up, change, gel hair, straight leg leathers, skinny ties, wayfarers....
Nothing but ten gallon hats. The whole "tour". Never took a date west of Houma again.
-
actually I think eddie had six hit songs....and if you count that horrid song he did with ronnie spector...it could be seven...

this should have been a sign..

You can see some great shows at surprising places. I saw Three Dog Night (minus Chuck Negron) at a Carl Casper Auto show in 1986. When they came out Danny Hutton looked around at the room and said "we've never played at a car show before". it was pretty funny. It was also a great show by one of my favorite bands. I saw Foghat at Michael's, the club in the Owosso Hotel in Owosso Michigan. Lonesome Dave was there and they were incredibly loud and incredibly good. They came out and played and it was like any show that you'd see by any cover band in any small club except they were the real deal. I saw Great White at The Post Office in Augusta Georgia in 1991. They were so loud it was painful. I saw Greenday at a small basement bar in East Lansing Michigan called The Land Shark. This was after the fame of Dookie But the date had been made before. One of the best shows eva. The place was way over capacity and Billy Joe Armstrong was completely insane.
I've seen Eddie Money three times between 1989 and 1995. Twice at Pine Knob Music Theater and once at The Palace of Auburn Hills. All three were sold out and great shows. I have to think that with the experience I've had with seeing big name acts in small venues that seeing Eddie Money in a cocktail bar would be awesome.

LOL yeah, it's small (150 seat) rock club. I think it was originally in an old government post office. They moved to a larger building but kept the name. It would be like putting a techno club in an old industrial building and calling it The Factory...
-
Eddie Money actually had several hits. Hey there are guys from the 60s still making the rounds.
Big Head Todd and The Monsters were in town the other day. I don't think they have had a hit in years.
-
Eddie is a great guy...known him for years.
Look...he's been playing smaller venues since the mid-90's. His last string of major hits were mid-80's. Basically, the "star" days were gone by 1990, and he knows it.
He went back doing smaller venue (300 to 3,000) tour spots in 1996 (Raleigh, Richmond, etc), and has even played "Toad Suck Days" in Conway, AR a few years ago. He's one of those bands (like some mentioned above) that if you didn't have the chance, or ticket cash when they were hot back in the day...you can see them cheap now.
He just has performing in his blood. I don't begrudge him the opportunity.
<> Eddie

Funnest concert I ever hard of was RunDMC doing a gig in Melbourne Florida in a place called "The County line Salon". It's a total redneck bar, I mean cowboy hats and boots the whole nine yards and they had a old school rap group play there. A dude I met a few times was the opening act for them..

I spent many a hazy night in the Land Shark. That place was ALWAYS over capacity regardless what night it was.

Celebrated a frined's birthday there one. I had 3 long islands and we all shared 4 or 5 shark bowls. I stood up to go to the bathroom and fell right on my ***...

Very nice. Did my first Irish Car Bomb there. 10 minutes later I realized why they call it that. Great bars up there. Probably would have done better in school if I spent as much time studying as I did in the bars.
