My favorite State Rep. Phil King has found a new way to sleaze. Besides taking illegal gifts and violating ethics, he was recently sworn in as a Major in the Texas National Guard. Phil has ZERO military background, but he is good friends with Gov. Slick Rick Perry(R) who appointed him.
The usual starting rank for a JAG officer is first lieutenant until they finish their basic military law education course, then you get promoted to captain. But if he got to circumvent this usual process, some well-deserving individuals with the proper military experience got passed over, and that's not right. All this from a local attorney who was in the TNG for several years as a JAG officer.
We are now paying him an added salary for that, plus an added retirement. He must have a very cozy relationship with the governor in order to leap ahead of others to the discredit of the ranks of TNG officers who have earned their positions of responsibility in service which has included multiple tours in Iraq. There's a lot of angry vets around here.

RPM...
Though I agree that it is BS what he has done.....Dont think for an instance its just republicans.....There isn't 5 politicians in that capitol complex that aren't sleazy and doing back door deals. King is certainly not doing right...but trust me....there are MANY more doing things in the extension and behind closed doors.
-
All politicians do that, they all have the I'll scratch your back you scratch mine.
-
Accepting an unearned military honor is worse than those guys who get little old ladies to pay for 'driveway resurfacing'....but we ARE talking about lawyers, who only define right and wrong by the punishment which may or may not ensue
-
Bah!
You got Nuth'n!
We here in Joisey have a Democrat Governor who has recently claimed
"there is no waste in government spending"
"There is no corruption in NJ by government officials"
Spent Millions of taxpayer dollars to hire outside lawyers to help develop some supersecret plan to turnaround our budget deficit that has has gone to court to prevent the public from learning the details.
and the only part he has put out for public consumption shows he is planning on raising the tolls onn our toll roads by some 800%
Yes thats EIGHT HUNDRED PERCENT.
And by borrowing against future state renevue
"Corzine is trying to restructure state finances with a plan that calls for compounded 800 percent toll hikes on the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway. Toll booths would also be erected on a portion of Route 440 in Middlesex County to capture new revenue from motorists"
Some people have claimed that Bush acts like he is emporer.
We have a governor who seems to actually beleive he is emporer
-
Here in Illinois, one the the most corrupt governments in the U.S, our Fmr. Governor "George Ryan" is in a Federal prison right now on corruption charges.
-
We had Bulger, beat that
-
If only the fricken pure-as-the-driven-snow Democrat liberals were in charge, why, the very earth would would be an Eden, eh, RPM.
You used to have a sense of humor.
I miss the old RPM.
BTW. My family have been from Texas since 1834. Corruption has never been confined to any political party. Why do you only complain about Republicans? For that matter, do you deliberately choose to overlook corruption when other party members are involved?
-
Why am I so tweaked about this?
A) Jumping the list of men and women that have earned the rank.
B) Phil claims to be the "only conservative choice" for the office.
Meanwhile he attends fundraisers in Houston from power companies that appear before his committee. This guy is the prototypical "conservative republican". He is cut from the Bush cloth.
At a debate last week he was nailed by his republican challenger for taking credit for stuff he had nothing to do with. (It just so happens the challenger had personally worked for over 3 years to get the state funds with no help from King.)
It's the fracking hypocrisy that chaps my hide.
Are there sleazy Democrats? Well, duh. But are they running in my district? Nope. When one does, rest assured I'll be on here screaming about them, too.
-
There were 3 people in a debate last week.
Phil King (R)
Joe Tison (R)
Charles Randolph (D)
Guess who said this:
“I think one of the most abused, misunderstood and un-listened-to portions of the population is the middle-class working man.”
-
Take the high road, man. At least we don't live in Detroit, Michigan.
-
I find it amusing you find only fault in Republicans who do wrong, yet deny the existance of any Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, etc etc being anything other than wind-driven, pure snow.
:)
-
Well, he does have a point. I hold Republicans to a very high standard. That's why I've become so jaded about our so-called Republicans in office today, except for a few. RINO's piss me off far more than a liberal bleeding heart tree-hugger. At least I know what I'm getting with those fools.
-
I hear what you are saying. But I also know rpm is a devout liberal democrat who would fingerpoint at a Republican for spitting on the side of the road :)
-
Well, what would the O'Club be without opposing views. I've noticed far more vocal liberals have left this BBS but RPM still makes it a little more entertaining! ;)
-
Agreed.
Its funny because we debate as if anyone is actually going to yield to another persons point of view!

Just a question........
DO you support democrats??????
CUZ they are much worse than this, much worse.
John Kerry talked a bunch about saving natural resources and he had this minivan that got like 5mpg..

Not quite LePaul. I'm a devout "all over the map" voter. :) I vote for who I think would best represent me and my slice of America. I hate politicians that take the stage as holding the high moral or patriotic ground and then take the lowest, greediest road when they take office. Usually, those are Republicans. More specificly the far right wingers.
Just like the preacher from Colorado that ran a powerful PAC or the senator from Idaho that tap dances in the men's room these people pretend to be better than than the rest of us while secretly being just the opposite raping and pilaging the country. I took an oath a long time ago to defend the constitution against enemies foreign AND domestic. I believe these individuals regardless of party need to be pointed out for what they are.
The rightwing republicans want to restrict freedoms by playing the Christian card. They cry less taxes, smaller government then spend like crazy and build more layers of bureaucracy. I can't stand the "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy.
But, that's just me...

So it's not the corruption that gets you mad, its just the hypocricy...
Like the Demo who says we should all care for Mother Earth but who has a $3000/mo electicity bill, who says that's okay, because he buys green power...
-
...but his private jet is an enormous polluter...
The Dems like to preach how others should live. Just don't you dare expect them to adhere to those standards.
-
The corruption would be the worst part of the hypocrisy. Remember these are the right "law and order" crowd were talking about. If your talking about Gore, eh...you may be right, but I don't think he's running for office anywhere is he?
So what's your point? You're mad at a guy that is out of office? Whoopty freekin doo. Uh, Newsflash... he's out of office.
I'm talking about a career scumbag that's running for another term so he can milk a few more million out for himself at the public's expense. You wanting to defend him?
Hey, he is a good friend of the conservative Republican that is living in a $10,000 a month house at public expense.

Gore is out of office? I thought he was out of office, but in point of fact he may be out of office. I'll google it and see if he may be out of office.
My point is that corruption and hypocricy are truly bipartisan.
I'll take your word for it and accept your word that Gore is out of office.

I've got no arguement with that.... and two wrongs don't make a right, either.
You got a Democrat stealing money or taking away my constitutional rights and I'm all over it like white on rice.

I have yet to see you post about one. Perhaps I missed it.

I have yet to see one to post about. Hmmm....
But, we digress. This is about the current sleazeball running for office.

So you didn't see stories about a LA (D) who had 90K in his freezer, or a OR (D) who had an affair whit a 14 yr old, or a NJ (D) who withdrew from his re-election campaign due to bribery from the chinese, or a CA (D) who was implicated in the death of a female staffer... or
None of these sparked your interest?
For a self described independant thinker, you seem to be fairly partisan.
-
To be honest, no. I have'nt seen them. I should have heard about the guy from Louisiana, but also to be honest I could give a rat's rump about New Joizee.
Any of those running for re-election?
-
okie dokey...
The woman killer from Modesto sorry... alleged woman killer... ran for RE but was defeated.
The LA D is still in office and is probably running, haven't heard if he decided to cash it in or not.

I was editing my post as you replied.

Sorry...
My point is it's kinda pointless to talk about the ones that we have weeded out of the system. I'm still trying to pull more weeds.

Gotta use your left hand as well as the right if you want to be effective.

Let`s see..............wasn`t Bill Clinton Commander In Chief?
-
WMD's found in Iraq!
uups nope.
However GIs are still dying to found them.
-
The states with a long history of one-party rule tend to have the worst corruption, regardless of which party one is talking about. However, having said that, the corrupt Republicans in Texas are mere pikers and amateurs compared to the legendary thieves of Louisiana. They can be few who have the ability to beat THEM at that game....

Man....that sleazy Tom Delay...he....he.....oh yah, they haven't TRIED him on anything after 2 1/2 years... The nice Dem prosecutor hounded him out of office after numerous grand juries saw no need to indict. Hmmm...wonder why the trial hasn't started yet.....

We have Mayor John Street here in Philadelphia. Mr. Street makes the Clinton family look like clean wholesome people.
While the Clintons had some of their staff go to jail or "Kill themselves", damn near everyone on John Street's staff is currently in jail with no possibility for a release any time soon, or ABOUT TO GO TO JAIL with no possibility for a release any time soon. Through politics and racism, Mr. Street will likely never see the inside of a jail cell.
It is very unfortunate what has happened to Philadelphia. Ever since Wilson Goode was elected Mayor, Philly has been ****ed. We haven't had one honest, decent politician be elected on EITHER side. Personal Politics and choice aside, there even hasn't been a good democrat elected.
