See Rule #5
-
well so far this month i havent been able to get on due to computer problems.
To tell the truth the only thing i have missed is having a laugh with my squadmates and a couple of the regulars that are on when i am useualy on.
-
Logged in last night, was really looking forward to playing.
Orange was over the cap, so I went into blue. Teams were someting like 115 - 70 - 125, without any good fights going on for the knights. Was plenty of porking and hording going on, I think of the 5 fields I tried along the knight - bish line none of them had dar or ord, although only one was being horded.
Went up north, watched rooks roll a few "mishuns" hording down 3 or 4 bases in about a half hour.
Only reasonably entertaining sortie I had was in a 190F-8 trying to stop 10 GVs from taking a base single handedly. Didn't work.
Log in this morning hoping things will be better... and wonder of all things wonderous there is actually a FIGHT going on between two close bases.
Until some attention starved #%^%& who was raised to believe any attention is good attention drops the FHs at the enemy base, then announces it like he did something good.
Took off to the other base, got into a 17 on 1, logged.
Gameplay really sucks, has for quite a long time. At least for those of us for whom the "hook" was air to air fighting. I guess if swarming undefended bases with a pile of chittering friends does it for you, then gameplays never been better.
-
Wow. Like I've said before, keep these posts vanilla...just tried to respond and it wouldn't go through, sans profanity. Instead of posting as urchin, post as if you're 'Churchin'-lol Good luck.:aok
-
Urchin, you should try the mid-war arena.
Not great like the old days, but certainly better IMO than the LW.
-
You're right Urchin, except there are some really great furballs sometimes. A few days ago on ndisles there was one that lasted for a few hours, over about 4 sectors.
I think players are just a very bad equalizer.. You can't expect them to do anything but follow the path of least resistance. When the balance happens to be just right by luck, though, it's great.
-
Been like this for years Urchin. Your only hope is fly around and find a couple of guys that will chase you out of the horde
-
Time to reimplement the the bbs whine bomb.
See---->http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=193413&perpage=50&highlight=base&pagenumber=1
-
I tried the Mid War and early war arena also. Not enough people to horde there, it seems like most people milkrun fields alone instead.
Couldn't find anyone willing to fight alone in either arena, although I did find a few that would fight once the odds got to 3 on 1 (usually one guy would try to 'fight' while the other two would keep making inept passes.
-
Bronk... is your post supposed to actually mean anything?
-
Urchin if HTC was to re-implement the test on the base capture system it would force fights. Instead of the hordes avoiding the other hordes.
Read through some of that old thread.
-
I find a lot of fights. I don't give a s*** about my k/h so I fly around the areas with small dar-bars looking for one on one's, twos and threes. I find a lot of them particularily around GV bases (more fighters around enemy, more jabos around friendly). A lot of those guys are noobs or mid-skilled players but if you get into it with 2 or 3 of them it can still be a handfull.
Quit worrying about your precious k/h and fighter score. I'd love to meet a few more skilled vets out there.

And it was the most sucking thing ever.

Bald - my K/H is craptastic, mostly because I don't enjoy fighting 20 v 1 as the 20 or the 1. It has been my experience that a small dar bar usually means someone is confused, or trying to pork n auger. Either way I may catch a glimpse of the icon before they blast their way through the field ack and slam heroically into the ground.
I love how hard it is to see folks now too, its a great improvement over being able to spot people a half sector away like you used to be able to. Now, you may spot someone just out of icon range, if they are highlighted against something. Really facilitates fighting.
Bronk - sorry... I look at the first couple pages and was confused. Failed experiment I guess.
-
Got to admit, I'm not too fond of the current trend in gameplay.
Bald, I find it ironic that as an admitted score weenie, you would mock others, insisting that we don't enjoy the game because of concern for our scores. Not everyone plays the game to fly around aimlessly chasing dots on radar.
-
FWIW - I upped this morning (post 12 hour shift stress relief) and ran into Parin and Mondego fighting as a pair. Got killed a lot, but had fun doing it. Someone knocked down the FH, but they came back up soon enough.
Was both nice and annoying watching this pair - get one in your sites, the other kills you...ho hum - but some very good team tactics (which is what its about - and yes, they were mostly outnumbered)
Parin and Mondego

Hey, I'm done guys. Take care.
-
Meh, I've gotten sick of every type of game I've ever played. Most people do. Sometimes I come back to the game later on after a cool down period and sometimes I leave the game forever.
Some people think venting on the internet or to somebody else makes them feel better.
-
Anymore I just find where the biggest bunch of hording weenies are and up the field they are vulching in an la7. I die almost every run, but every time I get one of the gutless wonders it bothers them a whole lot more than dying a hundred cartoon deaths does me. It's produced some great whines on 200 lately, especially from a certain squad.
;)
And you are right, Urchin. It is a shame.
-
it is a shame. the game is now in the era of the toolshedders completely and I don't think it is coming back from it.
-
The one flight I did today had a pretty good furball going on between Rooks and Knights.

Yeah, I got over it. I haven't been playing for score the past two months. Even though my rank is still high, it's just because I enjoy doing all those things so I do.
I didn't mean to mock or anything and I didn't even look at Urchins score before I typed that (and still haven't). I know he's a good stick. That's all I need to know.
Yes, at time's it is a little boring out there in the hinterlands but other times it's incerdibly fun. Just as anywhere else although in the populated areas you exchange boredom for frustration.
I've found another way to have fun lately too. I wait until the hoard of noobs/hanger bangers are attacking an undefended base, then I grab a Spit XVI from a base back, come in high, fight my way down and exit when I'm low ammo/fuel if I'm still alive. More often than not I am and there's been cases where I've stopped them altogether :rofl Nothing as gratifying as soloing a hoard.
One last way to have fun is to grab a EW ride and head for an inactive enemy base. They almost always up 1-3 guys to get rid of you and almost without exception underestimate the supposed POS you're flying. I did this a few nights ago in a 109E-4. I was fighting an La-7 and a 109K-4. I killed the La-7. He re-upped and got me when I ran out of fuel and was trying to ditch. With ample fuel they never would have killed me.
The point is, there are ways to avoid the frustration and have fun. You just have to be a little creative.

Odd... I read comments like that back in 2005 and even in threads from 2001.
I even hear that from people playing for less than a year ("6 months ago this game was fun, but now it has been wrecked!")
Maybe HTC should ad following strapline:
Aces High - Gameplay going downhill since 1999 :D
-
Its funny how uber players eventualy reach this point and make the same whine.....
You newbies and average tardlings are lousy POS and are screwing up My Game Experience!!!!!!!!!! The way YOU play this game is STEALING my entertainment value and you all suck for it!
They make their lack of happiness or lack of imagination to keep the game interesting for themselves our fault. We all pay the same $14.95 to play. When did their happiness become the additional price for us to play in their game?
HiTech should place a warning in in big letters before you log in:
WARNING:::YOUR GOOD OR BAD EXPERIENCE IN THIS GAME IS STIRCTELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. EVERYONE PAYS $14.95 TO BE HERE.

urchin, go into the DA and head to the 3 fields surrounding a lake part of the map. its a pretty decent furball with zero capture element. pure a2a

And one of the reasons the BBS was originally made for , so
players could voice their opinion on game play .
And Urchin is right by the way , most of the changes in the past
2 years haven't enhanced air to air combat .
I regularly switch countries and arena's looking for a decent fite .
So far it mostly works OK .
I'd like to see the MA and Early War down to one only arena .

I rem stuff like this in AW2 in 1997/8............... when (total arena) land grab first appeared.
the original error which has been reproduced in AH is making airfields the focus of the land grab................ a model where by logistic routes and centres of populace/industry are the focus (where airfields just get over run) would force combat over these objectives ...it could be engineered such there was no gain in porking/over running airfields

I seem to recall making a post about that years ago. Sort of a zone system in which each zone had a a small number of airfields (2-3) and a few vehicle fields (5-7) and one city. Capture the city, and you get the zone. Capture enough zones and you win the war, map resets, war starts again.
Rules for capturing cities would need to be worked out, but they should be harder than airfields are now. Maybe have 3-10 bunkers that need to be held in order to take the city.
-
If they took the LW map and made it smaller and put the bases just slightly closer to one another. The difference in having to fly all over to get into a fight would be almost non-existant. We would have large formations of fights going on from all over the map. Not just 1 or 2 different places. The map needs to be a bit more down to earth as far as being able to be won. The current HUGE pizza map is not going to be beaten by anyone. When titanic tuesday comes around the sides might switch but noone will ever see the final outcome. Taking the bases through the week before this really means nothing right now. Just thinking of how to make the actual gameplay a bit better here is all. No offense.

Won't this reduce the front area?

What the MA needs most is a real tactical system. Not just random furballing. At the moment the strat system is boring unless you like flying like a drone to the same toolsheds over and over.
There needs to be an incentive, some sort of reward for out-planning the enemy. Whether such river beds (paths of least resistance) of gameplay mecahnics are feasible is another story, but that's how it should be IMO.
Nothing more rewarded than actual strategy and tactics rather than hording, lancaster diving, suicide porking, etc.

Random furballing??!! Where!! All I ever see are large borg cubes running over everything in their path (as long as 'everything' isn't defined as ENEMY planes already in the air)

i sometimes wonder if some people are playing the same game. we have people whining its 100% hordes, some saying its 100% furballing, and some saying its all toolshedding.... snore.
large maps for me allow all 3 to co-exist without too much of an issue. Take the current map in Orange. Furballers generally hold the middle, while the strat minded guys seem to take the edges.
and with so many bases around surely it aint THAT hard to find a fight YOU like?
im on the side of the fence in thinking AH is getting less and less tactical/strat driving, and more and more TnB at 500ft with a niki. However this game is, how WE make it. HTC gives us the sand pit, we have the tools to do what we want.
-
In tactical terms the furballing is random. Furballers aren't looking to capture anything, they just fight "randomly".
In terms of usefulness, toolsheders are random too, they don't fight for anything that improves the air combat.. It just changes the location of the furballing.
The hordes are those lots of players that can't dogfight well enough to do much more than swarm the opposition with numbers rather than efficient ACM.

shame to see you go urchin

It really sounds like alot of guys in this thread aren't happy with this game.
There are alot of different ideas on how to make it better (for them)
If I felt the way you guys feel about it, I would leave.
Toolshedders, Hoers, lala dweebs oh my!
Why don,t you just follow the yellowbrick road out of here?
If you just want aerial combat , go to the DA with all your likeminded buddys. The Da ususally has PLENTY of room.
The EW and MW that alot of guys in here whined for also have plenty of room. Can't understand why those arenas aren't packed with AC only types.
But they aren't.
Its pretty simple really.
If you don't like the way the game is played in the 2 LW arenas, go elsewhere.
Seems to me that a minority of the guys in the game would rather whine about the game on the BBs than play it.

Yep, there seems to be something here for everyone.
