So, I was thinking about that rude smart-aleck remark I made to someone today for making fun of someone else. I still think he deserved it, and I'm not really sorry that I said it.
But in RL, I would never, ever, ever have considered even coming close to making a remark like that... I probably wouldn't have even batted an eyelash or cringed or anything. I would have just kept movin right along & just thought to myself, "Wow, he's a jerk."
So how candid are you in this forum ~ compared to your remarks in RL?
-
Are you talking about that thread post of yours that you deleted?
It's well known that people have less inhibitions on what they say/type online compared to "real life". Personally, as long as it's reasonably civil I don't have a problem with this. But some people jump straight to insults and it degrades or shuts down the discussion almost immediately, and that just isn't helpful.
But calling out a 'tard for being a 'tard... Go for it, both online and in RL.

Nah, the thread I deleted wasn't anything inappropriate.
It was one from earlier today with someone making fun of another instead of commenting on topic. Then instead of commenting on the topic, I made fun of him. Made me think of how entirely ridiculous the BBS sometimes is.
-
As I pointed out in another thread...
This forum makes me stupider.
-
I would insult people more often in real life if I could think faster. On the internet, I can word my response carefully before posting so I'm not stuck with just "...mwrglflrglsweetheartbag" like I would have come up with in real life. :)
ed: Kinda funny that so many posters still can't come up with anything better than the internet equivalent of that, even with time to think before posting. :D
-
I'm the same here as I am in RL - I say what I think. I try not to be snippy etc, but the odd outburst sometimes slips out.
I try never to be rude, unless whoever is on the receiving really really deserves it - then they are fair game.

Tarmac...hahahahaha :)
Heya Tarmac, avoid the chinese place next to the One Killeen Center at the intersection of Hwy 190 & WS Young. I think it's called Yank Sing (or something really similar). They had a whole bunch of dead cats out back... which means they probably ate rats who had eaten rat poison.
-
Nice. I'll keep that in mind, but I don't go out to eat too much besides bars. Restaurants are usually for dates, and I try to get the hell out of Killeen when looking for those. :)
-
I'm much smarter and better looking in real life.
-
I'm far less of an ******* here than i am normally.
-
I'm not shy.
-
I'm a bigger ball buster and a lot funnier IRL. Talking on the mic kinda weirds me out for some reason. Plus it's hard to get into a vibe having to press "T" every 4 seconds.
-
I'm a lot worse in real life. There's a lot less blurry impression from seeing someone face to face, so they only get the benefit of the doubt when they deserve it.
I call em exactly like I see em. You only live once!

Unconstipate already!
-
I just blurt out what first comes to mind. Most of the time I don't realize what I said but people around me are laughing. :lol
-
I calls 'em like I see 'em.
-
I'm as much of an ******* in RL as I am here. If I see someone is being a dip, I call them on it.
In short, they know how they stand when around me.
-
About the same. Unless I am at work.
-
Ummm...
I like turtles...
-
About the same here as in real life.
OOOPS here is a little edit.........
Only problem with the net is you can't hear the tone of voice or see the faces.
-
I like people to completely understand how I feel.
I dislike most of you, detest the other half basically and if you feel that the "weight" of the community will make me moderate my behavior then you will be disappointed.
-
here, as in real life...I am amiable and easily intimidated. I seek only to fit in.....and I am easily intimidated by bullies...especially on the internet. I only come here for a feeling of belonging, to remedy my own failures in life. I always temper my remarks so as best to fit in with the in crowd, especially here. this may be the reason I never shoot at anyone when playing aces high. I think it's rude.
-
I try to make it a rule that I never say something here that wouldnt say to that person's face if I meet them in the world.
As Tarmac says though you have an advantage on a bbs to take some time to think about your responses before you post them... There have been several times I have spent several minutes crafting a reply only to delete because I've cooled down or realized that what I've written doesnt really add anything to the thread.
sometimes though the smartass in me comes out and I cant help but post

Presently learning to delete and /or not post things that would eventually cause me to sit in the AH BBS timeout chair for a week.

The old line "No Fear" was aimed at the internet.
-
Ummmm, yeah, what everyone said.
In real life the tendency is to walk away and avoid confrontation.
On line, the compulsion is to share our dearly earned experiences and perspective to set the record straight for the enlightenment and progress of humankind. :huh

I speak my mind either here or in person. Hell you can ask Mac, we met before. I'm open for meeting others I "talk" with on the board and try to get in touch when possible. I just missed the chance with RPM but he had to work when we were passing through the area.
-
Met Mav twice... He's Great people.
If ya'll ever get a chance meet him face to face do it!
You're always welcomed here in Tulsa Mav.

I a bit less of an A-hole online than I am in my day to day activities.
For example, I held the door to a 7-11 open for this woman, she just breezed on in, not a thank you, not even a look in my direction, not even acknowledging my presence.
I calmly let the door close and said "You're welcome you ungrateful fat cow."
She turned and got all huffy and said "What did you say?"
My reply went something like this "When someone does something nice, its common courtesy to thank them, even in a small way. However, since you seem to have no common courtesy for others, then you deserve none from me."
-
Depends on the situation.
Sometimes I'll just bite my tongue.
Others. I make what I post here seem as soft as baby lotion on an infants butt.
but in general let me put it to you this way. when I was a foreman
I had a worker once jokingly discribe me as someone who "Thrives in confrontation."
This was after I told the two department heads that one I wouldnt put in charge of a set of lincoln logs, and the other I wouldnt trust with a paint by numbers set.
Heh. I was later proved right as they were both fired less then 6 months later.
Seems upper level administration felt the same way
-
I am actually rather timid here. But that may just be me not wanting to get PNG'ed.
I have learned not to say anything unless it is amazing. However, with practice, there is little that I say that ISN'T amazing.
Plus I'm a bit of an ass.
-
Everytime you post on here I think it's amazing....it's amazing that you've been in College now for four years and haven't graduated yet.
That's amazing.
:D

I'm pretty much the same on the boards as IRL. I couldn't be stuffed maintaining 2 persona's.

Real Life?
