Sometimes I get a little to boistious, more or less choising this word because the other 3 and four letter words would simply get this post deleted by skuzzy. I am apologizing to Batfink and some others in community, I am not taking time to go down a list of people I ran into, but some people like myself need to eat humble pie and shut up at times. Those who know me, know I have never said I was better then anyone else. Regardless that unless you spoken to me on vox or flew by my side dont jump to conclude im an evil deminted person. I Have my game personality as everyone else does. Yes I am boistious and not first to admit that I will toot my horn mostly at the wrong times, either what you call a "whine" or simply my frustrations. I am competitive. As reference to this, alot of people say same old "oREo" comment. Unless you were in a squad with oDALLASo or myself, dont be first to judge him, Yes he went as far as voxing people and was typically annoying, but as a squad leader, I found him to be one of the smartest people i've ever seen, im sure quite a few will back him on that he was a good squad leader just not a good member of a community. And I am appologising because I am not going to end up as one of the black sheep of this good community over some petty garbage when we could be having a beer and talking about aces in 15 minutes from now. I do respect all members of community untill proven otherwise. Yes I've disrespected certain people, no excuse for it I know, simple taunting shouldn't be taken so harsh, otherwise just use a squelch function. However I offer this appology from me, Adonai in hoping some of you might not take this forum post as just an excuse to get away from the problems, but rather make amend for my mouth.

Perhaps he means "I apologize" to [the] community.
Regardless, I have no comments I'd like to share in here. :noid

Tough crowd. Just one extra "i" gets 2 posts in response!
Problem isnt really spelling, it's abysmal typing skills. I'm a reformed two finger hunt and peck guy...coordination hasn't ever been a strong point, which is partly why I PRETEND to fly instead of doing it!

Whatever caused the conflict Adonai, you have my respect for doing the "right thing" to defuze the situation!

Too many players these days have fragile ego's and can't take a little razzin' so I wouldn't worry about what someone in a GAME thinks of you. Surely you have worse things to concern yourself with. Play the way you want to play. I didn't even read what transpired between you and Bat but, I picked it up from reading the post's on this board that you guys had a disagreement. I'm pretty sure that a large portion of the people in here that I [virtually dislike] are probably good guys in RL. But, I don't care either way because I'm never going to meet them or have the desire to.
Having said that....I think Bat is a great guy from what I have seen of him in this GAME. That doesn't mean that I want to become Pen-Pals or plan a trip together with him it just means I like the way he PLAYS THE GAME. On the other hand there are people that really take it overboard on ch200 and seem to be just immature, sore loosers that can't take getting their pixels shot down by someone else's pixels but, they may be great people in RL. Who knows?? What's more....WHO CARES?
The only people that I worry about getting along with are my squaddies and a select few others that I really wouldn't mind meeting in RL.
-
I appreciate the positive and negative feedback, regardless whether people take my post seriously I just offer this to show I am not a bad guy, am still willing to buy the beer when the nights done :)

It was a nice post Adonai, and I hope you follow through with the positive changes.

We all "grow up" in our own way at our own pace. Everybody has to take the 1st step sometime. I'll take this as yours in good faith till you prove otherwise. Overtime your level of ability will speak for itself....however only you can control your conduct. Being respected is a function of both your ability and your "conduct". I've always wondered about this "game persona" business. Why are game personas always "loudmouth salamanders" ? So when you are sitting around deciding what "persona" to take on - the first thing that pops into your head is "Yeah , I'm choosing loud-mouth salamander persona , that'll work"
Also I've wondered , do the real life loudmouth salamanders decide to take on "nice guy" personas when the are on-line - wouldn't that be ironic.
-
Heh, well, it's all about 'the first thing that pops into their heads.'
-
Oh, it came into my head, but now I'm not going to think about it, because that would require ONE THOUGHT!
So, whatever.
-
I've had the opinion most of my life that if you can insult, belittling, degrade, slander, libel, etc, someone in public..............
Then you can also apologize to that person, or persons, in public.
Preferably before those that you did the act in front of.
I have done so in AH on both the BBS and in the arenas.
IMHO I've always hoped others could find it in themselves to do the same.

I dont know if anyone is calling you a bad person, Adonai. I think some people just find your online personality abrasive is all. Be yourself, let the chips fall where they may.

I don't really know Adonai and have never had a run-in with him and mostly ignore the text buffer so I don't know if he's a smack-talker or what.
What I do find curious about this thread is all the high fives, salutes and praise that he's getting for making an appology.
Sure... maybe it takes a little to stand up and appologize but, at least for me, the proof is in the pudding, not in a single act. If an appology was warranted, it should simply be expected, not praised.
-
Adonai - Wisdom regardless of when it comes is worthwhile. May you be a new and improved you that satisfies you. (Not that I've ever had any interaction with you to have ever had a problem with the old you).
However, I do reserve the right to pass judgment on oDallaso based upon my own interactions with him, rather than your's. If there was ever a time when I would have quit the game, it was after being VOXed by a couple of players after just starting out here - and he was one of them.

This little soap opera has been pretty funny. The Brits really know how to crack me up . I love their accent and the film Bat posted kept me laughing the whole way through. It was the jokes about Bobbit and other classic Brit humor that kept me from reading the text that started the whole mess but I get the picture.
I know personally how hard it is to make an apology on this forum. I've felt it necessary to give one myself a few months back. Adon did the right thing and thats important even at the cost of still getting bashed by some.
Another funny thing I found was in Adon's signature. They're not the Wings of Terror anymore, they're called the "Shut Up Vans" Squad now.
:rofl
Hope everything works out

I hear what you're saying...
...but many people today just don't live that way, same as "Common Sense" seems pretty rare anymore. As far as I'm concerned, any time a smack talker, whiner, any other variety of "it's never my fault" thinking sees the light of personal responsibility, it's a good thing that's well worth praising.
After all, if everyone in AH saw how they looked to others, realized their mistakes, and apologized when they messed up, then we'd say goodbye to moderators and PNG's!!

It takes a man to stand up, admit his shortcomings and offer an apology to the public.
That MUST be respected.

Its not hard to make an apology, does not take a "man" to do it, one admits when he's wrong and I have been a jerk over time, but thats just me, I never took it serious when someone slanders me, I enjoy some banter, but realized next guy might not, Yeah Shawk decided to rename the squad, this week its =Shut up Vans= next week its Dot Squelch Adonai :)

I agree. I'm pretty much the same in here as I am in real life. It never crossed my mind to make up some persona to get my virtual rocks off night after night, shooting down cartoon airplanes has always done that trick for me.
I strongly disagree with the idea presented here that people act in a different way than they are in real life. If anything I think they act more like their true selves here than they do in the real world.
In life there are social constructs and pressures among other various reasons that keep most people in check. In a virtual world, the things that hold us back are removed, allowing the true uninhibited self to come forth. Actions that would get your bellybutton kicked in RL can be taken in the vittual world with little fear of reprisal or discipline, or better yet downright pain (think fist in the face). Sure, you might get muted or banned, but those aren't really things that are strong enough to keep a troublemaker in check.
When poeple claim it's all just an act and that they aren't truly the way they present themselves, I say rubbish. How many times have we seen the same person over the years apologize, act like they're going to change yet revert right back to the same antics that got them in trouble in the first place? In this anything-goes online world where consequences of actions are largely removed, the true self can't help but show itself, free to be who and what it really is.
I feel I have to comment on the difference between an Adonai and a SkyRock as well. They have both claimed the "act" bit, but as I stated above I, in the words of RedTop, just don't buy it. There is one huge difference though. In all his rants on 200 and here on the BBs, I never saw anything SkyRock said be malicious in any way. Sure he was calling poeple out, but always tongue in cheeck with smiley faces or a-ok emoticons, in essence saying hey it's just a game lets have some fun playing it. Add to the fact that he is more willing to help people learn than just about anyone I've run across here, you get the full picture of who Mark is and what a genuine good guy he is, in game and out.
Now in Adonai on the other hand I have seen the opposite. All his comments bear contempt for those he chastizes on 200 nightly, never being light hearted, just dowright rude. Whenever asked to back up his smack, we get the typical blowhard responses... name calling and cowardice.
It's amazing he was able to get away with it for so long, until thankfully a highly respected member of the community called him on it. But make no mistake this was coming sooner or later. My only hope is he can learn from this grow as a person and become a positive member of this community.
-
I quite disagree with the "real" person always shining through in their ingame personality. I for one, am a very quiet basketball player but at the same time extremely competitive(at least back in the day when I played competitively). In this online game, there is a sense of freedom and "wartime" smack that I find hard to ignore. Not to mention, many of the twits I've completely gone off on over the years deserved every word of it!!!!!!:aok
-
I agree with Stang.......You can learn quickly more about a person from a game online or not or "should I say how they play the game" then anyother activity........This reminds me of my wife when we would play uno with the kids (young) I would be doing everything I could to lose the game....all the while my wife is trying to WIN!,,it still makes me laugh!

Id rather drink a beer in real life.
Adonia you can talk all the smak on 200 you want to me I'll still salute you.
Its an entertainment to look how upset people can get over the cartoon world.
If 200 bothers people so much start squelching or turn it off completely.
Everybody gets irratated i just don't understand how a little smak talk
gets people so upset.
The option is there enjoy it or turn it off.
-
I also believe there is a large difference between SkyRock and Adonai. SkyRocks's banter is all in jest, unless you really deserve it, LOL. He's a friendly guy too. He's also more than willing to help people out, and a good stick. I don't think the two should be compared, unless they're being contrasted.
edit: nice write up stang.

An "in-game" personality hmmmm.......
No, I don't think I could maintain another one. I usually use whichever is dominate at the moment. Sometimes it's the mild mannered reporter, sometimes the odd loner with inappropriate urges, or the nymphomaniac wet nurse, or the angry prison warden.......

He didn't need to apologize, he just needed to duel Batfink.
Many of these twits who get all high and mighty about 200 and try and act like it's some oscar award ceremony are just too caught up in their own pooh to understand that not all folks are the same. I see no problem at all with Adonia, I mean he is a cherry twit dweeb that won't fight, but he still has the right to be who he wants to be on 200. If you don't like how he is on 200, then squelch or detune, but try an save us all the bull of having to listen to some holy roller crap about how people should be on a detunable channel in an online game.

In basketball, one expects and even cherishes the atmosphere of smack talk. It is completely integrated into the game of street basketball for sure, and rarely do people throw punches over it. Besides, getting the *** smacked out of me is not an issue, as I am well equiped to handle myself. Apparently, it's a good comeback from you types though, as if all mouthy peeps in onliine games are incapable of defending themselves or knocking someone's jaw into next week.
On the other hand, I do think many of you forget this is a war game, and it inherently involves pissing the other guy off. Just because someone doesn't use the 200 ch doesn't mean they aren't just as frustrated as the guy who does. But to put some sort of chivalrous code of manners to it is going a little far with nancy pants if you ask me! I, for one, couldn't wait until I was good enough to tell someone I was going to slap them around before I did it!:D
