Title: Storch
Post by: Yknurd on February 19, 2008, 12:10:42 PM
Hey.  I wanted to let you know that I didn't see you typing last weekend in the MA.  Well, that's if you did type anything.

I was not tuned to 200 and I don't want you to think I was ignoring you.

I had typed a few things on channel 1 but was surprised that you didn't reply.

Anyway, I enjoyed fighting against you.  You blew the F out of my hellcat.  I didn't know that the 110 could turn so well.

What happened on the third fight?  I heard *boom* somewhere behind me and couldn't find you.  Figuring you were on my six, and continuing to look fervently in all directions, I promptly ran into the ground.

We should fight again sometime.

Can PNGed people even read the forums? I'm curious as to whether HTC simply locks them out, or blocks their IP addy, or if something else entirely happens.

Speaking from experience :D, one flavor of PNG includes IP addy blocked.  From work 'someone' could access the boards as a guest.

Judging from other PNG'd folks who immediately reappear in shades, I'd say there's also a non-IP blocked version of PNG for more mild offenders.  (Which quickly turns into IP blocked version when the shade account starts mouthing off... :D)

Oh, and apparently your avatar gets reset...I'm too lazy to put something else up.

Storch got PNG'd?  When did this happen, I mean it's not like I'm surprised it happen, but just curious about when it happen.

And you can ask AWMac if he could see the boards when he was PNG'd last week, Skuzzy gave his access back yesterday.

Heh.  I have no doubt that Storch is reading this thread.  I would hardly expect him to respond, though.

Not quite.  He made a post.  Skuzzy skuzzified it, locked the thread, and went so far as to ask if Storch needed another time out.  Storch then posted essentially the same thing, with IIRC even the preface "this might get me PNGed, but . . ."

As innocuous as the post may or may not have been intended, he clearly challenged Skuzzy . . . which was a battle he had to know he would not win.

Yes, I read the post.  I admit I was a bit perplexed by the response it got.  I can only assume that Storch's track record worked badly against him in this case.

But that is really beside the point.

My point is that, the actual content of the post wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back.  The straw was poking Skuzzy with a stick by essentially re-posting the original.

Me:  "I like Fluffy the Sheep."

Skuzzy:  "This thread should never have been started.  Do you need another time out?"

Me . . . what to do?  Keep my mouth shut is the smart answer.  Starting another thread so I can re-post "I like Fluffy the Sheep" is a clear challenge, period.  In this case it was an even greater challenge since it was only a couple of hours after the warning.  I believe Skuzzy would PNG my or anyone elses b-hind for that, too.

That's all I am saying.

I'm not bashing him, I like Storch, i think he's a funny guy, but to post a thread right after Skuzzy told you not to is just poking the sleeping bear, no matter what the topic of the thread was.

Who is bashing?  I am just correcting the record - agreeing with you, in fact, that the post itself was nothing to be PNGed over IMO.

But, whether he intended it or not, he challenged Skuzzy, and that brought out the PNG stick.

Well one has to ponder the thought of does a person really want to poke the tiger in the eye or not?  We are but guest here in Skuzzy's house and he makes the rules and we can either live with them or try and poke his eye out and get banished to the netherworld.  I really enjoy how quiet the place has been without the aforementioned person's rants and raves.

'Pawned' is just internet-newspeak. Kinda think of it as 'owned'.

'Png' stands' for Persona Non Grata. It's latin, it roughly translates' to you are unwanted as company. It's used as the official way of designating someone as not being allowed to post, or participate in forum discussion's from the moment of the 'png'.

Regardless of "poking the tiger in the eye," or any details of the particular final event --

In talking about forum behavior, HT has said he thinks of the BBS as  his "living room." Over time, can anyone say Storch has presented himself as a guest who'd be welcomed there? On the whole, he's been more like the boorish coworker that you'd try to keep from finding out about the party..He's openly said that he thrives on making people angry, creating conflict. ..

So the PNG's no surprise to me either.

Its amazing that since this is the case his money is evidently good enough that he can still play their game.  A double standard is it not?

You can pay to play the game and not be allowed to post here, but you can also post here without paying to play the game.

If you're going to make a quotation, make sure you know what it's really trying to say. You're quoting what Jesus said to the accusers (These guys  were, not incidentally, more interested in trapping Christ in an "unlawful" act of mercy than in anything the woman had done. The incident was more of a political dirty trick than an ethical dilemma.) After the accusers realized the tables had been turned, they backed out of the situation by running away. After they were gone, he said to the woman, "Go and sin no more."

If you think about it, the point isnt just humility. Yes, the story shows that self righteoudness judgmentalism is repugnant in those who have been shown mercy themselves. Just as importantly, though, if we've messed up and are given God's mercy, we're supposed to grow in the right direction, to become more of what we should be.

You're right, we've all melted down one way or another. We've also seen how things work in AH -- if you realize you're out of line, there isnt a problem, and you don't get permasquelched or PNGd.  It seems likely to me that Skuzzy looked at Storch's overall pattern when he made the call.

:lol  Nicely done...

Nonetheless, not exactly talking behind his back -- I've posted similar stuff in the past in Storch's threads, and had the discussions on channel with him. And, if you look, I never said a thing until his allies defended him first. I'm responding to the defense -- a very weak one -- that claims the last straw was a very, very little straw!

So not gossiping, and not attacking the helpless. In fact, I'd llove to listen to the conversation where you tell Storch that he's helpless and defenseless...

Seems to me that we pay to play the game, and that's exactly what a PNG'd or text-banned person gets. When you sign up, the TOS (the fine print of the subscription, or the Rules on the BBS) explain the contract you're entering...and since that includes treating others with at least minimal respect, there's nothing surprising about having access altered if you break your side of the deal.

Simaril,
why do you assume you know what other people are thinking or feeling. maybe you should let them express their own feelings and thoughts??

finding the need to define my thoughts with your adlibs and assumptions is one of the problems of this forum.

i only speak for myself when i say that i can explain myself, if asked, rather then reading one of your ongoing rants that lasts half a page about what you think the definition of what i wrote might be.

thanks and have a nice day :)

I fought against Storch for some time before I joined JG-54.  I don't quite understand how people get so worked up by him.  He'll often follow a cut with praise.

Anyone who has actually gotten to know Storch knows how far removed the real man is from the popular opinion.  I'll not go any further because some people just want to keep the fantasy of the "evil Storch" and "evil JG-54" in their minds.  And...that's ok.  I know Storch gets a kick out of it.  :)

Just because someone does something offensive enough to require a removal from the BBS I don't think HTC would want to lose the $15 a month by also removing them from the game.  Now if that person does go and do something in the game that would be offensive I'm sure HTC would go ahead and remove that person from the game.

No, I believe Fencer is saying the opposite.  One can get away with most anything in the arena's, without consequence, but on the boards, certain behavior, formost of would be drawing sabres with HTC employees...will get you booted.

Comraderie - Goodwill and lighthearted rapport between or among friends; comradeship

In civilized societies it is a common practice to defend ones friend.  Especially a friend who does not have the ability to defend himself.  I know it's difficult to understand but some people in this game actually care about something other than themselves.  It's crazy, I know, but it happens to the best of us.

First I flew in JG-54 because I wanted to get better.  Now I fly in JG-54 because it's a family.  I can't wait to hear the latest sheep joke, how many bad puns can Tyrant use tonight (Forgive me, I'm feeling sheepish), what has Jaeger gotten himself into now, how does Tbar get a K4 to do that, how many kills can I steal from Storch, and above all else...the sheer thrill of flying with a group of guys who live for the fight (not the win).

its amazing that the guy is not here to defend himself and yet is the talk of the forum.

you can like him or hate him, but you have to admit he's powerful stuff. this thread has been growing exponentially since it was started.

i think we should give him another chance. otherwise no one will have anything to talk about.

hes one of the nicest people ive met on here, always willing to lend a hand, and offer advice.

granted sometimes his advice is a little rough in the presentation, but he means well.

what do you say boys!! bring storch back!!! hes an icon like it or not!!

set aside your emotions and lets be neighborly!! we'd all do it for you! why not him!
