Title: New graphics card
Post by: edge12674 on February 19, 2008, 05:53:18 PM
It has been about a year since I closed my account with AH and I am now back with an upgraded computer.

The only problem I am having is that I have no options in the "graphic" preferences within AH (the clipboard) for dynamic water or any anti aliasing.  I have setup the newest Omega Nvidea drivers and it seems to be working in other applications, but not AH.  In short my AH looks the same on my 8800GT as it did on my 7600GT card (except with the 7600GT I had the option for dynamic water).

Since I did a fresh install of AH over my old AH files is it possible the old graphic settings did not get erased?

I appreciate any help.

System:
Intel E8400 3.0 Ghz (yes, I installed the dual CPU update)
Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 mobo
EVGA 8800GT  512MB o/c to 650Mhz
2GB DDR2 800 Ram
WindowsXP home SP2

Dynamic water was disabled in the game.  So you cannot see it anymore.  This happened over 6 months ago.

Other things you can do to make the game look better is downloading the 1024 high resolution texture skin pack for the game.

You'll need to change the video options in the Main Startup clipboard in Aces High (as in before you get to the tower and launch the game in online or offline mode).

Anti-aliasing can only be turned on via the Nvidia Control Panel.  There is no option to turn it on in Aces High.

The game has no graphically really changed much in the last 3-4 years other than the redone textures and skins.   And since the game uses Directx 9 (I think?  Maybe even Directx 8), you cannot force it to look pretty like Directx 10 games with your new 8800GT card.  So pretty much, your new card will let you run the game at higher resolutions with AA turned on and high res texture packs with a good frame.  Other than this, the game will graphically look the same.

If you did a install over the old game you may not have reset the video settings. Delete the video8.cfg file in the AH folder, and restart the game. It will load defaults and you will be able to go fresh from there.
