ABC News has continued to investigate the recent mass murder at Northern Illinois University, and has discovered that a HUGE LOOPHOLE currently exists in America's Gun Control Laws.
Must new laws be quickly past to close this LOOPHOLE? Here is a link to the news story with the shocking details:

Should people who voluntarily go to a mental hospital for treatment be banned from owning guns too?? Would such a law stop some folks from seeking help?
-
no to the first, yes to the second...
and
if they cant be trusted with a gun...why the hell are they out anyway?
-
Yep,
Like any question on those forms you could lie about. As for the database, well we would have to give the government access to all our medical records.
The Mayo Clinic defines mental illness as
What is mental illness?
Mental illness is a term that refers to all the different types of mental disorders, including disorders of thought, mood or behavior. To be classified as a mental illness, the condition must cause distress and result in a reduced ability to function psychologically, socially, occupationally or interpersonally.
This means that someone who has a mental illness may have trouble coping with emotions, stress and anger, for instance, and trouble handling such things as daily activities, family responsibilities, relationships, or work and school responsibilities. You can have trouble, to a greater or lesser degree, with one area or all of them. And you can have more than one type of mental illness at the same time.

You could have a fight with your spouse and poof, you have a mental illness. I know it sounds stupid, but what government worker is going to decide who has it? The doctors they are going to hire by the hundreds to sift through all this? A doctor that is anti gun? A doctor that is pro gun? A GS-7 who hates his\her job? Do you really trust the government that much?
Say some one is fine and 6 years later he has a mental illness?
Again it is just media blowing hot air for a story.
What is the answer? I have no idea, just don’t punish me for someone else’s problems.

That is something I had not thought about. You seem to be interjecting logic into this discussion.
Was interesting to see that this was one of the primary stories on tonight's ABC Evening News with Charles Gibson. It would now seem that all 3 major TV networks are lobbying for stricter gun laws.

...It was said, that Gun control was a political dead horse. I've noticed that it is on the sidelines' in the current elections. I can see Dem candidates "murmuring" about it, only mentioning it in really in-depth interviews, but not shouting it out loud in mainstream campaigning. Just enough, for a few extra votes, then once they are in office, everything comes' out.
We could all put tinfoil hats' on, and try to hide our gun stashes' from anticipated Gov't. 'gun grabs.' Or we could wait and see.

Well I guess it depends on how safe we demand to be.
I'm sure that if we apply the proper homeland security procedures we can be far safer than we are currently, many should not have firearms.
Maybe someone can be hired to watch some of the folks on this board for possible signs of instability.
The 4th has been diluted in the name of security, why not the 2nd?
Ya I know ....many of you guys are now gonna be sniping the evil government agents from behind trees to protect your freedoms (in your minds) :)

Agreed.
Unfortunately though. That is often how it works.

You all realize, though, that this means that Britney Spears has now lost her right to own firearms.
Is that fair to Britney?
-
Sounds fair to me, I wouldn't want a looney unstable person like her with a gun.
Though I'm not talking about all cases, just her specifically.
-
You really shouldn't give guns to the mentally defective. Or chain saws or a license to drive for that matter.

I'm not excited about that prospect, either, but it is conceivable that hillarycare could be implemented without turning the databases over to law enforcement. The database that's being considered in this topic is expressly for law enforcement purposes. I see a difference...
