Title: To Russian-speakers here: Egor Letov died.
Post by: Boroda on February 20, 2008, 05:49:51 PM
Yegor Letov died on Feb 19th at home at Omsk from heart attack.

To language nazis: I translate every phrase here from Rus to Eng.

Помянем раба божьего Игоря.

Всё идёт по плану (All going on as planned!).

Я убил в себе государство (I killed a State [government] inside me, welcome Lazs):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egor_Letov - it's a link in Eng.

http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=sGTo8jzElrw - Glory to Psychonauts! Hail to pioneers in their own personal mental spaces!...

I am sure - drugs killed him...

They removed a Rodina clip from Youtube, here is a live record from some meeting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhODrF6OYfU

My defense: http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=kNd7LwbOv54 - Plastic world have won, who needs a slice of a July sky?  My defense is a sun reflection of a non-seeing eye, a funeral ball of a clumsy world.

Its too bad that he died for no good cause, but I understand his charisma.

It seems to be a disease of sudden, fabulous recognition, fame and often wealth - and maybe too much *****.  Most of us don't need to worry about that particular problem.

"It's all with you"

If you like it - I can put several albums on the web for you to download.

Letov was a poet. Minimalistic sound, poetry unleashed. Not exactly a "punk rock" as it was in the West, just "thee chord revolutionaries" with Yegor and his quite complicated verses. He was a poet of everyday pain, existential Communist, who wanted "happiness, free, for everyone, and may no one leave unsatisfied" (Счастья, для всех, даром,и пусть никто не уйдёт обиженым!) - it's a quote from Strugatsky brothers "Roadside Picnic" (А. и Б. Стругацкие, "Пикник на обочине", 1972), a book that inspired a Stalker computer game.

Back in the 80s they (Grazhdanskaya oborona, "Civilian defense") made records on cheap cassette-recorders and they were spread all over the Union by people sharing tapes.

Yegor was officially declared "mentally ill" and spent some time in a mental hospital. Fortunately - they didn't cure him.

Will try DL-ing it for educational purposes ;)

I am stuck with 1960s-70s music, I am a hairy hippie :) Most punkish things in my walkman are the Dictators and Stooges.

I blame the language barrier. Seriously.

I saw Iggy here in MSK in September, and I don't want to know what he sings about, "Now I wanna be your dog" is enough for me, and I am completely lost in more complicated English lyrics. :( I have to read it to understand.

Dictators and the Stooges are bad arse :)

Yeah, I don't even understand "Egor Letov" but it sounds awesome :D

If your on a 70's hippie trip, check this stuff out... right out of Nam (Vietnam)

http://www.ibiblio.org/jwsnyder/rft/rft.html

Scroll down to where it says "Original Restored Show"

The guy was stoned out of his mind and told it how it was in Nam, no BS.
