Just wondering what the general consensus is. I logged in Sunday for a few hours and if it wasn't too dark to fight because of dusk/night, it's because of clouds. In the case of the clouds, it would be nice if you had a choice where to fly, but they seem to be everywhere.
Hopefully, it was just bad timing on my part. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I think you just came in at a bad time. I've never had a problem finding clear skies to fly through.
As for the night, I really enjoy night flying.....I only wish it was longer so's my Lanc can make it all the way to HQ and back before dawn, the actual window of total black is only about 5 mins long.

Have to agree with bowser on the night time.. its too long. Its beautiful, but I don't think its right for the MA.

Lol approx 5 minutes of night time is too long ?????
As for the clouds they do not cover the whole arena and even if your near em you can always fight above em if you wish.
If your finding it that difficult mebbe you need to check/adjust your display settings.
Btw when it does get dark i find its easier to see if you turn off lights etc in your play room.
-
If it wasn't for night I wouldn't buff at all. The thrill of taking an unescorted Ju88 to a base under the cover of darkness does appeal to me, where taking a B17 or Lanc anywhere, anytime doesn't.
-
im guesing those that cant see at night in this game either need to turn up there monitor brightness or get a pair of friggen glasses.
BTW just aim right under that big neon red icon.
-
It's not a technical issue. I have a TNT Ultra2, and I've cranked the brightness and gamma right up to the point where everything is almost washed out. Anyways, I don't expect to be able to see clearly in night or bad weather. That's fine. My point is those conditions are too prevalent.
It may not be completely night for very long, but the onset of night or the "dusk" is almost as hard to see in, so I include that in dusk/night. It's a considerable period of time.
Is there a scheduled rotation of day/night? How long are the periods of each, etc. ?

well I got an old Voodoo Banshee vid card and I have trouble seeing at those times but I enjoy it. And those guys are having just as much trouble seeing you.

I do not mind the darkness, but I do mind the map/clip board being darkened. I've flown the Cessna at night many times, and the flashlight works everytime (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Man I love the night and the cloods they look great, the darkened clp board does suck some though.
I also wish the night lasted a bit longer say 10 more minutes.

I kinda wish the half-tracks and the tanks had their headlights turned on. Kinda hard to see the ground at night, plus you could see them from the air... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I love the night and the storm cloud layer. Unfortunately, it is currently too light under the storm clouds for them to have the same tactical advantage as when they were originally brought into the game. I also wish the night would last at least twice as long as it does, because it doesn't afford enough cover (In terms of time) for night buff operations.

Night = time of logging. Its fine for scenarios but sucks for MA.

I agree J_A_B, its not just the 5-10 mins of darkness its the 20 minutes or more of dusk, then darkness then 20 minutes or more til daylight again.
basically if i'm on the server i just climb til its over.
If i login its night, I log out

I still dont really like the storm or cloud effects. The effect, for me, is not worth the frame rate hit.
Only good thing about night is it makes it easier to buff. If im not in the mood to buff I just log till its light again.
Flying around seeing nothing but black untill a half dozzen red icons magicly appear out of nowhere isnt really my thing
Wanting to end on a positive note, AH is still the betst ticket in town.

Buncha panzie bellybutton whiners. Geez, cant go with the flow? Mommy!!! I neeeeed my night light on!!!! Mommy!!! Don't close the door!!! Come on guys, eatin the same thing every day all day is bad for ya, embrace change! I love the nights, the mornings, the dusk, the storms...and yes, I SAW LIGHNING FLASHES!(were you looking for dead people? sorry!) Not actuall lightning, just the flashes down in the clouds. Arrrroooooooooooo!

Night and clouds are splendid special effects. I am astonished by the way HiTech has implemented the effects in the game.
Having said that, I have to confess that I play 'Aces High' to shoot mofos down ... not to look at special effects.
If I come into the arena and it's dark, I leave; if it becomes dark and I'm in the arena, I leave; if I up a field that's overcast, I look for a field that's in the sun.
While it's true that low light conditions affects both sides, I don't play AH so I can participate in low light conditions. Target acquisition is just too difficult.
As someone pointed out, it's not just dark, heck the twilight which precedes and follows night is just as bad. Low light conditions must last for close to 20-30 minutes! Man, that's too much.
I'm sure HiTech and Pyro will find playable compromises.
By the way, anyone else have trouble distinguishing between squadmembers and hostiles on the map? The orange under low light looks red to me. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I love the night. Moon and Stars are beautiful. They're even in the right spots. You can navigate by the stars at night, if you want, too short though. Clouds are great too, big improvement over what they were just a couple weeks ago. They still do a number on my FR, only have 350 mhz. I'll upgrade. Keep the night and clouds. One thing that could use a change at night is that your cockpit and instruments look the same as in daylight. Would be neat if cockpit were dark, with lights in the instrument gauges like in your car at night. I assume thats how it is an a real plane also, but wouldn't know. This small change would inhance the effect IMO.

Agreed Lobo, the dash is so bright it robs you of your night vision. The guages and sight riticule should be the only thing illuminated.
I love the night and the clouds. Running night buff missions though the clouds and dropping down for the bomb run. Or just skimming the moonlighted tops otw, awesome.
Grand kudos to HT

Texace, take a good look at those vehicle headlights notice they're just a slit?
Those are low observable lights, translation,
If you are low enough to see headlights, then you are a second away from an undesirable air/ground interface (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Personally i think a very fair compromise has already been achieved with the short duration of the night time.
And remember if you dont like it and wanna log then go try the H2H arena which has a furball compound just for you.
-
Here's the solution:
Plane's have this nifty lighting system called "red light". If you are or have been in the armed services, I'm sure you got that cool "L" flashlight with the various colored/refraction lenses. Put the red lense on and go outside when it's extremely dark.
Shine it around, shine it in your eyes, and do that cool stuff. You can still see, your eyes do not need to re-adapt to the light.
Now, give the flashlight to your friend and have him drive around in a car at night, both of you with your head lights off. You'll see the entire cabin of the car as a floating red light.
So, this is what we do> Convince HT to have the instrument dash lit by this color light at a very low brightness. This light will reflect off the canopy and you can see your instruments. Now when you are dogfighting someone with their "night lights" on, you can easily see where to shoot because their canopy will be a nicely lit red compared to the black night.
It'd work for me anyways... but I'd like the option to turn it on and off. :-)

I do believe the clipboard is darkened at night to help hide the glaring tell tale dots of the enemy planes.
I like the night and the storms

Now thats a great Idea, That would be just like the real thing. It would be the responsibility of the driver to shut them off if an Air strike is comming, or enemy tanks.

Did anybody notice the stars? I saw the little Dipper up there. Did anyone else notice any other constellations?
Really a great job done on 1.06 and the patches that followed. <S>

I may be summarizing unfairly..but it seems the guys who like it the most are the bomber guys. That makes sense since obviously they would prefer that fighters be unable to find them.
Then there are the guys who find the effects cool. They are, no doubt about it, and they'll get even better I'm sure. Should effects take precedence over the primary goal of the game though?...to shoot other planes down in case you didn't know. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
However, for the guys who fly to fight plane vs plane, it's next to impossible. No knock on anybody's flying or fighting style, but I'm sure a lot guys fly AH for this reason, and these conditions are not conducive to that.

I must be in the minority because I love fighting fighter-fighter when it's dark. I also enjoy fighting in the full noon sunlight.
Aw. Hell.
I just realised that I, personally, like variety and that GumbyDamnIt...I must be be one hell of a pHr34k!!
Maybe the darkest part of the whole Time-of-Day thing, sunset, dead of night and sunrise, lasts for bout 20 minutes. The rest is regular daylight.
Yup, hours and hours of daylight broken by about 20 minutes of darktime.

I thoroughly enjoy the variety of lighting effects in AH, for several reasons:
1. It looks cool!
2. It enables a "stalemated" strat war to be busted loose by a suitable timed buff raid.
3. It changes the whole feel of the arena, and confers a sense of time.
4. It provides some great anti-buff "hunts" for fighter pilots.
I wish night, in particular, were about 15 minutes of total darkness.

I do like the way night and the clouds are done, the night effect is awesome, it just kills playability for me (no its not an FPS issue), I don't enjoy chasin something I can barely see, and I can't be bothered to crank my brightness and gamma to get an edge.
I have noo problems with the clouds though (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
