Buddy of mine has a problem with his onboard sound.
Everything in windows says the sound device is working properly.
But when you try to play any kind of sound be it the stock windows sounds to a CD.
He gets an error message saying he has no sound device

BTW its n Emachine
Suggestions,thoughts,ideas?
Anyone?

Need more info...
Did this just randomly start happening? Did he install a program or hardware that resulted in this problem? Or was the computer liked this out of the box.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them at all? To me it sounds like either a driver or IRQ conflict.

Unlikely it was a software installation as he primarily uses it for business record keeping.
And I know it wasnt a hardware installation as I would have been the one to install any hardware on either of their machines
Seems its been like this for a while and they only mentioned it when I was over their house to fix an unrelated problem.
Hadnt thought of redoing the drivers.
My first instinct is simply to just install an el cheapo sound card as they only want sound to hear system sounds and to play CDs while his wife is working.

I had a similar problem and it turned out I just needed to install the drivers. Also, if it is like my card, you have to select the speakers and their position in the I/O section of the software.
