Title: Weather?
Post by: Tails80 on February 22, 2008, 07:09:07 AM
I was playing in the MA today and i saw it was snowing outside my house. Then i got the idea what about weather? A couple of people and I were chatting in the MA about having rain, snow, and wind. This might be an exciting arena if it were true.

Also, maybe some other natural things, I don't know i just thought it would be cool to have different weather schemes depending on either season, month , or any other time frame. Like.... Winter you get snow, occasional rain. Summer and spring just a lot of rain, and maybe like dark cloudy days.

One more thing, More clouds. The occasional Puffy cloud is nice, but how bout some real action? maybe like a huge storm cloud where if your dogfighting you have the ability to escape...thanks to the cloud. Just a couple of ideas, thanks.

Weather (clouds, fog, etc) usually sink frame rates on most average computers.  If you like fog and clouds, try finding a squad who will dress you for Friday Night squad ops this week.  The North Sea map has wonderful clouds and fog.  Also the Christmas over the Rhine map has snow all over the place.  Its very nice.

ok but couldn't they make like a map instead of being green, be white. And snow. Or have a darker map...that rains?

We use maps like that in the Special events all the time :)
Well there hasn't been a rain one yet, but there have been ones so foggy folks have lost spatial awareness and spun out . :lol

Tails, these maps (Snowy grounds etc...) can't go into the MA because they are custom tile textures. Therefore they are not allowed in the MA. Weather systems would be nice but I think at this time HTC has better things to do. Large clouds in the MA would definitely sink frame rates. I am very inexperienced with cloud layers, but once I made a cloud thick enough to what you are describing. People playing in the upper 30s in frame rates sunk to 5 once they got near it.

Croduh. H2H only terrain though, no paid arenas would accept it.

Bad weather generally grounds aircraft meant for VFR flying only.  Sounds like fun.  Bring on the rain.

Check out the FSO map this friday, if you can. Fog and cloud layers off the Northern Sea. It's quite an interesting environment (especially when searching for ships to sink!)
